Cheap fixed blade

I may be a bit biased, but I have the Bushman in addition to the Rodan and for the money the Rodan owns. :D The Bushman is still great, though, and one of those knives you almost can't NOT own. It's just as tough, and it's cool that it has the socket, but the ergos aren't nearly as good. :)
 
Bacman, I have one of the Rough Rider drop points. Haven't done much with it, but it seems as good as a $12 knife is going to get. Full tang, highly figured root wood scales, the 440 blade takes a good edge. Guard is stainless and perfectly fitted. Blade polish leaves a lot to be desired, but I do not feel that is important on a user. It's a good looking and good feeling knife.

The Scandi grind Moras are tougher for heavy work, but the RR should stand up fine under normal use.

I also have one of the Woodswalkers that has been mentioned. I would not reccomend it for general use. It's a specialist tool, great for small game, birds, or fish, not much for heavier work. In a pinch, I'd dress out and skin a deer with it, but that's about its limit. As the name suggests, it's perfect for a casual walk in the woods, but I'd want more knife for even an overnight stay.
 
A fixed knife for $20-$30? I would go with 2 Mora knives and then get something to eat with the change. I have a Carbon Steel Craftsman and a Stainless Steel Clipper - they are VERY capable knives!

The Cold Steel Canadian Belt knife can be had for under 20 bucks. I keep one handy in my truck and used one as a hunting knife this past season. It performed very well.
 
I think everyone should have a Mora lying around as a beater if nothing else. If your in the USA, you can pick up a Buck fixed blade at WallyWorld pretty cheap.
