cheap knives on Ebay

recently bought some cheap knives on Ebay. They are made in china, one was all stainless steel and didn't look half bad. Wondering if you know of any wholesale websites that might have this knife, instead of buying them off ebay, I'd rather get them directly from the source.

There is no brand name on this knife. But there is a big "R" on the box it came in.

These knives are being sold for $3.49 each.

Any thoughts?

Gary777, welcome to BFC. I'm sure if you hang around you will be able to learn a lot And have a lot of fun.

But, such cheap low quality knives are NOT popular around here. If you are really committed to this sort of thing, look up Smokey Mountain Knife Works. But I think you ought to consider looking for a better quality knife. In the long run, it will be a much better investment. Others will probably add to this sentiment.

Gary,

We have stared looking into several China knives for offering on our site. Over the last year many changed have been made in China. You would be very surprised to know that many quality US made knives are actually now being made in China under strict QC. Yes I actually used the words China, Quality and QC in the same sentence.

Look for more exciting news out of China after the shot show and we should have some China knives on our site soon.

Be careful when buying these. Call the dealer and ask for an honest opinion of the quality -vs- $$$. We will let you know if a knife is a POS or not as I am sure the members here will as well.

There is a market for $5 knives folks so go easy on this one

Thanks for your reply. The knife that I am reffering to, is located here. (I found it!)
You can buy this knife in bulk. I've seen it as low as $1.80 per knife, but you have to purchase 200. :-(

But go to this link, and tell me what you think.

Oh, and all those knives I bought at Ebay, during an insane moment, I sold a few to my coworkers, and recovered some of my cost. Women love to shop. Maybe there's a market for knifes at the workplace, or even on the street somehow.

I've played with some of these type knives at gunshows and such. Always been tempted to buy one for kicks. They feel somewhat solid. Unfortunatley, if you pay $1.80 for a knife, most times, you get what you pay for.
The liner lock looks a little tenuous at best. It might be worth an extra $20 to get a knife with a liner that can hold up to more reasonable presures. $20 is alot cheaper than buying new fingers. Also, the blade steel doesn't look that great.
If you're looking to sell them, you're probably going to have to buy them in bulk to make a reasonable profit. Do you think you can sell 200 knives at $3-4 a piece? If so, you could double your money.
Also, you have to think about your goals. Do you want to make $1000? How much time are you willing to put into it? If you don't want to sell them, what do you want to do with them? Retail can be profitable, but only if you can make a large margin and move alot of stuff.
Overall, you might just be better off letting someone else get stuck with 100 $3 pocket knives that wont sell. Course, thats just my opinion.

You can also find plenty of crappy ( I mean Cheap)knives on QVC or the home shopping network channels, they even have these wonderful knife experts to show these beautiful wares during the show and boy do they know what their talking about. If I recall the last time I watched I think you could by a 100 piece knife set for like 200.00 and it even included some really big Excaliber looking crappy swords made of that high quality 420j stainless with quality sheaths( genuine rats Ass leather)!!!!It's so tempting,I might have to go get some of them knives too.HHHHMMMMMMMM!thanks for the link!

Gary777,

Stop, just move to Kalifornia. I see COSCO ships all the time from China. They throw these knives over board so they don't run a ground in the shipping channel, all though we now can not eat the fish from our bay because of the heavy metal there are tons of these metal objects with handles at the flea markets. Please stop by any time and take them away.

Happy Holidays
Jeff

This forum is a place where people who appreciate knives come together to bulls*it. I ain't even wastin' bulls*it on a $1.80 knife...

Thanks for your reply.

No, not really looking to make alot of money. I found another website that would sell me a dozen for $2.20 per unit. That's only 12. Just thinking I could sell a few to my coworkers for $6.50, then sell a few to my wife's friend's husband's for $10. Then there's the guy on the street, "Psssst, hey buddy, got a moment".

It's not really about making a ton of money, but just to make an extra $50 on those dozen knives.

Any anyway, the people who buy those knives aren't really going to use those knives, because obviously they are not real knife people, they're just impressed with the low price on a shiney neat looking knife.

Those 6 China cheap knives I bought over Ebay, I re-sold to my female co-workers. They wanted them for Xmas for stocking stuffers. One wanted this real cheap one, I was trying to persuade her not to buy it, because even for me it was cheap, but she said, "but it's pretty". OH well.

Thanks for hashing this out with me!

BUY A BUCKETFUL OF THE CHEAP BASTIDS. BUY AN EXTRA COARSE MILL BASTID FILE. BUY A LARGE WHETSTONE.

TAKE EACH ONE, GRIND THE POINT BACK A LITTLE OVER A 1/4 INCH AND THEN GRIND THE EDGE OFF.

STONE IT LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO SHARPEN IT, ALMOST. ROLL THE FLAT GRIND FROM THE FILE OVER UNTIL IT IS ROUND.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE IN THE TRAINER BUSINESS.

Welcome to BFC Gary777!!!!

I have thought, on several occasions, about buying some of these inexpensive knives to resell at flea markets and similar venues.

I have seen the same knives, that sell on the Home Shopping Channel & QVC, resell for an enormous profit.
I.E.-Certain "fantasy bowies" (using the term bowie here very liberally) originally sold for about $8.00 and then resold for $150.00.
eek.gif

I have seen this time and time again at local flea markets and indoor markets.
I know that if I were to buy a couple of those 100 or 200 knife set deals on the HSN or QVC that I could definately make some serious coin.

The problem that always then comes up is with regards to my concious.
I just couldn't rip people off just because they didn't know any better.

Also, as mentioned before, I don't trust these knives and I wouldn't even buy them for my own use.
What good are they if they will only cut off fingers?

Save the money that you would have spent on a couple of these grade knives and use it to purchase a decent quality knife.
There are plenty of good quality knives out there for about $25.00-$35.00.

Check around here at BFC, I'm sure that you will find something that is worth spending your money on.

Hi Raptor,
thanks for you reply. I guess I really am a newbie to knives.

I don't think I'd ever sell an $8 knife for $150, that's close to fraud, yet still within the framework of Capitalism.

But this knife just seems well built, yet again, I am just a newbie, and will learn given enough time on this board.

HI Bob,

how does one find wholesale prices, in order to become a knife distributor?

Most distributers require a copy of a State sales tax certificate before they will send you a dealer catalog/pricelist.Some knife distributors are Blue Ridge knives,Moteng etc.

Gary777-Welcome to the forums.
A word of caution.Would you use a $2 linerlock knife if there was a possibility that if the lock failed, you could lose a finger? That knife wouldn't be worth it;at any price. What if your co-worker comes in tomorrow and tells you that her husband lost
2 fingers with the knife, and he is waiting to see you, after work.Is that worth the $5 you made on the sale?
Do research on these forums, you will learn, and gain respect for the knives and yourself.Keep us posted on what you decide and again- Welcome and good luck.

Gary, please use the POST REPLY buttons at the top and bottom of every page to reply. Using the Quote button all the time is distracting.

Second, folks who have bought cheap knives in bulk and sold them for profit to unsuspecting idiots have taken major heat here in the past. Listen to Sky Masterson. You seem like a nice person. I would hate to see you turned into the object of a flame war.

Good luck. Enjoy the forums!
