Cheap knives

There's no shortage of high quality , low cost knives out there. I own quite a few low priced Kershaw, Buck and Rough Rider knives.
If it's a quality knife I get satisfaction using it.

There's also plenty of low and mediocre qualty knives at both ends of the price spectrum. A high price doesn't always equal high quality.

I can vouch for the fact that expensive does not always equal quality. When I was buying customs, I bought more than a few that were had significant issues that I rarely see on mass produced knives.

Yep, cheap knives. Gonna pick up a couple of the cheaper prod. folders and maybe some f.b's just to see what the deal is with them. Been concentrating on better hand made stuff the past year or two and frankly don't use them much. I always say to myself geez I paid 400 bucks for this thing and I don't want to scratch it up. Weird but true. So I've ordered the UC Willumsen Blondie in 440c, and have rec. a Hallmark Kendrick prod. Fire something. Breather, spitter, or something along those lines. Gotta tell ya the Kendrick design kicks ass for a sub 40 buck folder. So the Willumsen was ordered and we'll see about that one. keepem sharp

First off, i cant financially justify a $400 knife at this point in my life. Second, I personally feel that there is also no reason to, with all the fabulous production knives that are avail. Many of which are Made in America, by Americans & sold at a working mans price. I am not much into folders but have a few. There certainly are MANY expensive knives i simply LOVE, but until i win the lottery, i will just have to enjoy looking at pics of them. So, to all you guys that can afford them, please keep buying them & post up lots of pics, so we can drool over them. Many customs are simply so beautiful, i call them works of art that are still perfectly functional.

I know what you mean about using $400 knives. Anything over about $100 and I ask myself if I really need to use this one?? But why did I buy them in the first place? I'm not a collector. It is a quandry I deal with.

The fit an finish of knives such as the slippies (Frost Cutlery, Rough Rider, United) is generally fairly good when you consider the price component. I do have to look at quite a few to choose one or two that I am satisfied with. I buy these in person, not online. I rarely look at the knife displays at hardware store unless they are made by Case because they will usually only have one or two of each model shown and I want to look at more than that and pick the one I think is best.

In the kitchen, we use cheap Victorinox knives a lot. There is a mix of serrated and plain edge. My wife has a habit of prying with a knife from time to time so I go with the <$10 daily use vics and like them. I'll even use an electric knife sharpener on them as I often will have 5 or 6 that are still unused tucked away. I also have better knives for kitchen use as well, but those Vics really perform!

I can't say that I am a big fan of Mora knives in general. I read so many good things about them that I just expected better than what I saw. I bought one. So I pass on them.

Absolutely love the SAKs which for most models are under $50 and I'm comfortable with the pricing and what I get for the money. I have quite a few different models. Unless I start loosing them, I probably own enough for the rest of my life as I have spares for the ones I like.

The Spyderco's are generally excellent. I don't own any of the "high end" ones like the Gale Bradley, but I have been very pleased with the ones I own and I don't consider them to be "expensive knives", but certainly not "cheap".

All that said, I tend to look at the $50 > $150 price range when shopping for a knife. The cost component depends a lot on the particular knife as you can buy a "cheap" $150 knife or a fairly expensive $100 knife depending on what it is.

Have not gone yet to a custom folder but I keep considering that option. But will I use it?

I have bought junk knives and some lesser cost knives that I really like. So there are few absolutes other than I favor US or Japanese made knives versus Chinese made knives as a general rule.

+1 for the Peasant Knife. I'm amazed at how quickly I can get a razor's edge with minimal effort. Plus, for around 10 bucks, you can't go wrong if you need a non-locking blade.

Did a recent inventory, and subsequent thinning of the herd. Thought to myself, gonna rid myself of alot of the 'cheap' stuff, and concentrate on a little more unique knives. So, I says, this will be a breeze. Problem is, most of my knives fall into the 'cheap' sub 60.00 range, and they're my babies. Why? Because I use and abuse them without fear. They are great knives, Kershaws, CRKTs, Benchmades, Opinels, Moras, Bokers, Cases, Gerbers. Not my opinion of crappy brands. Others would say otherwise. But the last knife I bought, another CRKT, Ken Onion design, and I carry and use it alot. No custom, but another Favorite. So it goes, I guess. Do what you love, buy what you like. Nothing wrong with the occasional safe queen, but otherwise buy based on use not price. My .02

I hate cheap knives. I have an absolute passion for inexpensive knives. ;)

value varies between one to another... A cheap knife to one may be an expensive knife to others...I seen women collecting Chanels & Louis Vuittons for $3000 a bag....from baseball cards to hand guns...it's only going to get expensive when you loose control of it. Jay Leno collect motorcycles for god sakes...

Everyone should have a perfect blade for a particular job...a few to rotate EDC...I just purchase a 2nd hand Benchmade off eBay for $80, to me it feel like $800 bucks...today I EDC my $14 kershaw

Feels great as a Benchmade....no matter cheap or costly, I love all my knives because each one has a special feel when held in my hands, but of course the $$$ costly ones feel much better! LOL...
