cheap, light, zero maintenance hard handle slab material. Suggestions??

The OP also mentioned "not rubbery"; stall mat is, well, rubbery. C'mon guys, let's pay attention and help this fellow out.

actually i believe he meant like rubber like a bicycle tire almost like kraton g but horse stall mat is actually VERY hard and if a little softer that ashphalt

OP Here,
when I said not rubbery, I meant like not grippy, since the knives have to be carried under clothes often, I need something that doesn't really grip fabric. I am also not a fan of springy materials for knives as they eat up energy when trying to cut or whatever.

I got to put an order in w/ USA knife maker, maybe I'll get a piece of that horse matt for the hell of it.

Delrin - Mcmaster Carr carries it and it meets all the requirements. http://www.mcmaster.com/#acetal-homopolymer-sheets/=h9iiks

I haven't used it but have seen tons of it on production knives. The data McMaster has on sounds pretty good and the price isn't bad either.

Well,
3/8 x 1 1/2" is ca $4/ft.
3/8 x 2" is $9.72/ft

How does that compare to G10, micarta etc.

Also, it is good to know that real micarta is not so absorbant to water/oils as I thought.

Delrin is basically a brand name of Acetal. You can get acetal from other suppliers, including Enco.

I have had micarta subjected to a fair amount of water and never had an issue? Now I wouldn't make a dive knife with it but never an issue.

Now delrin is an extremely tough material. I am a Utility worker. One of our 13kva connectors are made of Delrin. It is made with Delrin to break very high amounts of "load" when disconnecting a live line. It is a very tough impressive material.
