These are scales that have just a little more fill in them than I normally like to sell, perfect for beginning knife makers if you don't mind a little bit of filler to show. They would be perfectly fine for smaller folders or inlay. They even have some blue in them. I would like $25.00 for each set. I am happy to answer any questions. I take all forms of payment. Please email me before sending any money. The price is plus shipping, I ship with U.S. flat rate priority and charge only actual shipping charges. Thanks for looking. Mark
Sorry these are all sold

Never used mammoth ivory before but would like to try it. What do you mean by fill/filler? Also what are the dimensions of the 2 largest pair?

Hi Darrin, because mammoth ivory is 20 to 60 thousand years old many times it will have cracks, and most of the best colored ivory is very close to rotten ivory so we sometimes have to fill small cracks on back side of the scale. I use West Systems casting resin mixed with ivory dust to fill those cracks. To many makers it is acceptable to have a little bit of fill material on the back side of the scale, most of the time it is completely removed by the maker while thinning the scales for the knife or when hollowing the ivory to balance the knife. I prefer to leave the scales as thick as possible and allow the maker to deside how thick to leave the scales as apposed to removing the voids completely from the inside of the scale myself. It is never desirable on a high end knife for the fill to show on the finished knife. I hate to waste anything and I thought this would give newer knife makers a chance to have a try at using ivory for the first time without having to worry about ruining an expensive piece of material. The two largest sets are 3 3/4 X 1 1/4 however, they have all already been sold, sorry about that, I will try to put more inexpensive scales on soon. Thanks Mark
