Cheap, well made folders. Do they exist?

I have a habit of giving away folders to just about anyone I come across that needs a knife. Friends, family, co-workers, even a few strangers. I've decided that it would be worthwhile for me to keep a small stock of inexpensive folders handy to distribute accordingly. Are there any well made, locking folders in the $10 - $15 price range or am I stuck with crappy imports and the stuff on the Home Shopping Network. Any suggestions?

CRKT Mirage can be had for about 15 bucks. Its a great knife for that price. Aus6 or Aus8 steel, depending on the model, and the liner lock on all the one's I've handled has been fairly well done.

Great suggestion. I have the 4 1/4" curve and the pruner in my gardening box. I just wish Opinel put a clip on thier knives. OK forumites, how about something with a pocket clip too!

Thought he said $10-15.

Nothing serious in that range IMHO. M-Tech maybe.

The cheapest I can think of is the Kershaw Vapor at $18-20.

Is CRKT still making the basic Mirage? All I've seen are the titanium models.

ehhehe i know what you mean.

first time i read the post, i thought he said $105...

I was like...Hey, wanna be my friend?!

;)

ObBFCOnTopicComment: You might consider loosening some of those requirements and going with the Victorinox Classic. It's a nice little thing and can be found quite cheaply. Even the Leatherman Micra and the Swisstool won't be that low...

I got my Kershaw Vapor for $19.98 at Wal-Mart.

For the $18-28 range, Cold Steel makes Trailguide lockbacks with Carbon V steel and full flat grinds. Lockbacks are generally safer than liner locks (assuming the new owner brushes out pocket lint or other lock foulants) and these are about the intermediate range for low-chrome folders between Opinels and Benchmade's 710HS.

thom,

wow. that's pretty cool. carbon steel in an entry-level lockback...

too bad they're as ugly as sin, but if i'd known... i might've gotten one a long time ago...

heheheh thanks :)

I thought Extrema Ratio owners thought everything looked great if it was tough and cut well...

:p

The clip isn't ambidextrous, but, if you know a friend who's a machinist, he or she may drill out the other side for you.
