Cheap, well made folders. Do they exist?

thom,

hahahaaa

there's NOTHING wrong with being ugly as sin... as long as it's sharper than a witch's tit (to borrow a phrase from Dex ;) )

..... ex-ER owner, let's say. ;)

that Busfield is pretty nifty also. AUS-8, G10, brand name, all for $15... wow.

these are all good suggestions. makes me really start thinking about my $100 productions and $++ customs... hmf...

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the Kershaw vapor and vaporII.
And the CRKT line.
The ones that I've had held up well to edc and are inexpensive.
I usually buy em used or trade.

I've got a Gerber 2" clip point lockback with a composite handle that I paid less than $15 for 3 or 4 years ago. Bead blasted finish, "400 series" stainless (so I presume it's 440A). Last summer I found a smaller version at Lowe's for $9.95 that I carry on those rare occasions when I have to wear dress slacks. Since I started lurking here in the knife forums late last summer I picked up a Kershaw Leek as my main EDC, but I still carry the 2" Gerber in my right pocket (I'm a lefty). Prior to buying the Leek I've never owned anything other than what I call "department store" knives, and the Gerber is the best one of that genre that I've owned. Very light, takes a good edge, and it's loose enough to pop open with a practiced flick of the wrist -- yet it's solid once locked open.

Before you knife nuts started corrupting my mind it (the 2" Gerber) was my idea of what an ideal pocket knife should be. ;)

I also recommend M-Tech and Master cutlery.

But what I've been giving away lately is Shrade simons. No pocket clip, but a neat snap to hang on a belt loop. Everyone loves 'em. $14-17 on the web.

The Kershaw Vapor, several CRKT models and some of the V'noxs would all make excellent choices.

You can get the small Gerber Paraframe framelock at Walmart for $10 and the larger one for $20

They might not still be in production, but they can still be found with ease.

Smith & Wesson Cuttin' Horse range. I am really impressed with my modified tanto model. I can keep a good edge on it with a few swipes of a polished steel. I haven't had it fail on me and it has opened a lot of boxes and cut a bit of leather.

What about the Gerber Ridge Skelaton.About 18.00 at Wal Mart.Small,Aus 6,made in Tiwain but for some reason I like them.
Another one is the BRK Spyderco Native. It does not come close to Spydercos quality but for 20 bucks it aint bad.

I also give lots of knives as gifts. I settled on the Kabar/Doziers as the best quality clipknives I could find under $20. I think they were $17 at Midway. You can find the Vapor II online for under $20 also. Another best buy.

Gerber LST is a nice little knife. I think that is what "MeDocter" is describing.

Well, I'd rather have a $100 axis-locked Benchmade than a $3 liner locked folder. And my fingers agree.

Ex... because... I needed the funds (had to eat :( ) and it didn't fit in any of my pockets... jeans or khakis... (I carry rear pocket, which is why.) One day I'll stumble on a Fulcrum and I'll check it out. But the Nem was just too big, and I do work in a semi-PC/liberal environment. The GB is just as big as I wanna get.

I heartily agree about the fingers thing. All FIVE of my fingers on the right hand, and all FIVE of my fingers on the left hand. They all like a good, solid, reliable lock. ;)

Sorry to read that you were short enough on cash to sell your folder. Still, if a Nemesis was too big to carry, how is a Gransfor Bruchs smaller?

;)

A little polydactyl, are we?

I say for good yet fairly inexpensive folders, definatily check out Ken Onion Designs by Kershaw, specifically the Chive or Scallion. You can pick them both up at wallmart. For an EDC, they are sweet. For self-defense, the "speedsafe" opening is awesome. I have had the CHive for sometime now. I just bought a Scallion the other day for the need to carry a slightly larger version; ran me about $35 bucks. I love it! Comes shaving sharp out of the box.

I say that if you want a fairly inexpensive EDC, You can't go wrong with Ken Onions by Kershaw.
