Just in general terms , a fixed blade is usually going to be stronger and more reliable at any given price point than a folder . Cold Steel has many great ones at value prices . SRK , Recon Tanto , etc are nearly indestructible in any reasonable use .
They have cheaper ones, but not that I've owned and proof tested .

Fixed blade: Cold Steel Recon Tanto. I've done unspeakable things to mine and never once felt like it was going to break.
Folder: I don't really have any inexpensive modern folders in my collection, but the cheapest I have is a Gerber 06 Manual folder, and it's probably trustworthy.
