Looking for great, cheap places for tools such as files, taps, steels...tools sets.
I have been running searches but it would be nice to get a point in the right directions.
Thanx for the info.

I buy mines from KBC but that's in Canada.
You probably know this but cheap tools are just that, cheap tools.

Filling out your profile with at least location would help folks to know where to point you.

Steel--Aldo
taps reamers and such---enco,msc,mcmaster-carr
files--I buy mine from my local hardware store, they are about a dollar higher than some site but I don't have to pay shipping.

Craftsman brand files from Sears are pretty decent, a little less expensive than Nicholson or Simmonds, and best of all they will replace them when they wear out. Cheap C-clamps and spring-clamps from Harbor Freight or the Dollar Store work fine. Other than that, there's not much in the way of "cheap" tools that don't end up costing more in the long run. For certain, don't go cheap on steel or precision tools like taps, dies, drill bits etc! What's the old saying, something like "buy once, cry once".

This seems to be some kind of secret, but Enco is a subsidiary of MSC and can get you pretty much anything MSC, McMaster-Carr, Grainger, Fastenal etc. carries at a lower price. They're not as fast, though.

There is no one place to get it all. Something that will save you a little money on some things is to get a C&R FFL license for 35 dollars. Then you can buy tools and supplies at Brownells at dealers cost. There's not a whole lot at Brownells that everyone can use but that FFL has saved me thousands on some tools and finishing supplies. Plus I like to shoot guns a lot and it saved me money with that as well.

You only need two or three decent files to make a knife.
Don't buy cheap, buy wisely
One large bastard file, one smaller single cut file and if you like round plundge lines buy a chain saw file.

Cheapest place to get everything you need is at local auctions. Sometimes they are hit and miss and people will bid up somethings well over retail, but most tools; especially hand tool can be had for cheap.
