Cheapest way to do a makers mark?

I'm in the process of making my first stock removal blade and its really coming along great. I don't have fancy high end equipment and have done most of the work using files with some assistance from a rotary tool.

I would like to put a makers mark on it the cheapest way possible. I would like to avoid engraving and I have read a bit about using acid and electricity. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me? If the acid electricity deal is the way to go is it done before or after heat treating?

Thanks in advance.

Get Wayne Goddards $50 Knife Shop. He describes his etcher there. The actual cheapest way is use a scribe and write it in. Not very professional though.

Perfect, that thread was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks very much!
