I just picked this buffer up from a friend of mine.

He said it works good and everything, He built it when he was building a custom motorcycle.

Its a 110, 1/4hp, 1725 rpm.

I figured it would be good cause it fits in my little shop.

there is no wiring. So I was wondering if any of you can help me figure it out.

In the pic of the motor you can see it still has a black wire in the one post and part of the white wire in the other.

I also have a switch that has the t screws in the one side and a green screw in the other.
I need to buy a cord for it then I can wire it up and give it a try.

Can anyone tell me what wires I need to put where? also what are the extra posts in the motor for?

Here are a few pics.

from what i can see, the 2 wires still attached are the ones you need to attach the new wires to. just get a new cord, attach the black wire where the old one is and for the white wire you put the switch in line with that one. the green is always ground.

No No Richard , wire the black ( hot ) wire through the switch . If you just break the neutral you will always have a hot wire on the motor to knock you on your butt if not paying attention some day .

The "extra" wires go into the motor windings an are for changing the rotation of the motor (and or voltage). Hopefully the little cover plate still has the wiring diagram on it. If not, you can find the information on the internet. Attach the ground wire to the motor housing.
Have fun.

So attach the black to one of the posts on the switch then bring black from the other post to the motor, then just connect the whites to each other?

Yes the white wire stays intact, break the black wire with the switch.

Cool, Thanks for all the help!

Now to just buy some wire, clean it up, paint it, and then I will be a buffing maniac:cool:

also buy an electrial box to put the switch in,also the white wire should be to the wide side of the plug.

make sure you ground everything! the ground wire from the plug will go to the green post on the switch, then on to the body of the motor (there should be a screw inside the box on the motor that just connects the ground to the motor housing itself)

getting zapped by 120v can be fun but 230v is no freakin' joke~

im glad to see another cobbled buffer, i wish i had pix of mine but my camera is down at the moment. youre going to love that thing!

ps.. DONT PUT YOUR FEET UNDER IT WHEN YOURE BUFFING STUFF
