Check out my New Woods Bumming Trio

Hi all,

payetteRucker, I hear what you are saying on the smaller hatchets. But I do fine them just right for the smaller chopping. When chopping up some wood that is in that 3.5" to 4" thick wood a little hatchet works pretty good. anything thicker and yes I want my bigger axes with there 17" to 24" handles.
Like I said I like the set up for what it is.

This is not the set up I want for a northen winter. But for my area this little set up works fine and lol I really like the looks of it too lol. It does what i need it to.

Like.

Well, I have been wanting to build another leanto campsite area.

The place I have been wanting to put a a little leanto shelter area at is in a thick but really small ceder tree patch. It sit right next to a field on one side and then a pasture on the other. You can walk around the ceder patch in a couple of minutes. I bet it is not 50 yards by 50 yards. But it is thick as can be except lol in the very middle of it there is a small clearing about 12' by maybe 16' why I do not know but it is just awesome. I can slip in there and make a few right turns and then few left turns and presto right in the middle is this little cleared spot. I found this spot about a year ago when I was following Kelly Girl ( my Beagle) She just walked right in there and turned this way and that way and well I was like my own secret garden lol.

Today was just the day to start on my new sheltered area. Well I am going to start a new thread on that. so look for it and let me know what you think.

Rick J. yea I have the small philips. Yes I just love this knife too lol.

That's a great trio you made up there! That's axe is really slick, I've been looking for one around that size. I bet if you were to slap some canvas micarta scales on it it would be bad a**!!! Great thread.

333rm, Thanks alot. I am really happy with it so far. Check out the thread that I just posted about the 2 feather leanto I made using this trio of tools.
yea I have made some little hatchets like this with G-10 and Canvas Micarta.

But this one I wanted the elk antlers for all three cutting tools.

I think I'm bringing the family over for breakfast (all 7 of us:D) Great looking blades!

Ha! Now I have a face to put on my blade :D:D:D:D!

BTW, you have to come up with a name for my blade ;).

Hey Bryan...I like my Eggs over Easy & my Bacon Crispy :D
Thats a nice looking trio you got ! Love the Kephart & the Antler handle looks really good, very traditional looking  When you get tired of that kephart you can just send it my way ;)

Wow, beautiful set (the knives, not yours). That clip point looks like a fantastic user.

Very nice looking tools.

I'm curious though, the knives look like they have almost identical length and edge geometry. I woulda thought you would want ones more different from each other to cover a wider variety of tasks.

I was thinking the same thing...not really sur I understand the need for 2 knives of equal size  maybe a 3"blade of some type for the 3rd knife :) just my .02 .....still love the kephart !

Those handles are eye-popping pretty Bryan.....I gotta luv me some flared butt! :D :D :D

Those are some great tools Bryan, I really like the look of that hatchet and the Kreps knife.

Maybe I'll have to make it a point to come down and see them for myself, as well as that great new campsite you've been building lately :D

i will say for everyone hollar at breeden knives or aka sicily02 and request a blade. i just finished my specs on my new kephart with him and man he is on the ball and the price is simply amazing. he will hook you up for sure folks. its been a pleasure to work with him to say the least

That Kephart.... man, you do really nice work. I've been holding off ordering for a while...

You know as to me naming your blade. I think that is for you to do.

Coaldigger, Eggs over easy, Bacon crispy ....Got it lol.
Thanks I am glad to hear that you like the looks of the antler and then knives.
As to getting tired of the kephart. I just do not see that happing. But if yu ever want one made up for ya let me know;)
JCavSD, Thanks man. Yes I thought the clip point turned out pretty good also. In time I am going to make me up another one and put orange handles on that one.

Joben,Thanks. As to the knives having about the same blade dememtions.
That is because I made both of these knives with the intent to do replicas of the 2 different knives from 2 different old time campers Horace Kephart and
E. Kreps. Kephart liked the spear point and E. Kreps liked the clip point blade shape.
I just wanted to make knives like what those 2 fellows like to carry and use for there camping and woodcraft that they did back then.

kgd, Thanks. I think they are pretty too lol. Now as to the flared butts
it depends on how much flare for me wheather i will like it or not lol.

Rocketbomb, Thanks. Say this is the hatchet I was talking about making in 5/32" and so far I am really pleased with it. It really bites deep and chops well for the size that it is. It really slices like i thought it would too. So all in all I am very happy with it.

omniviking, Thanks.

Grunt Soldier, Thanks for the kind words.

Beef, Thanks. well if you ever want one just let me know :D
