Check out this GIANT Bowie

Hey, that thing is made out of 18/0 stainless steel! That's the same stuff my silverware is made out of!

If hitting the trail, leave that Wall Hanger on the wall where it belongs and bring something that won't break as soon as you try and cut something with it. Cold Steel makes a Larado Bowie in those same dimensions, out of higher quality materials and craftsmanship.

Humph!!! You boys and your small toys...

Beat this!!! :)

Why anyone would want a 11" knife for camping, or heaven forbid, for hiking, is forever beyond me. But there's no arguing tastes, so I'll just say what the other guys already did in slightly different words. That "bowie" is cheap, and it's crap. It's worthless for any serious use.

but it "...displays a pompous attitude"!!!!

never heard of a knife descriped quite like that....hmmm.

Does anyone have one of these, know anything about them? I'm thinking that it's pretty impressive for general hiking/camping. It's 5/16" thick and the blade is 11 5/8" long. WoW!!! What do you guys think? Seen it anywhere cheaper?

I would not buy that knife if I were you. That knife is for displaying. The steel is terrible. There are way better knives for camping for cheaper than 60 bux.

Funny you mention that; you might wanna do some research on the Laredo. Tang is a complete joke.

Grampa, Paul Bunyan is dead. :p

NO ! He is not! He lives in every 10-12 year old boy and that is who this knife is made for.

I have to wonder though, someone went to China, spent a few 1,000s on tooling and bought 500 or a 1,000 of these and how long will it take to sell them, even with the deathless copy?

Carvel Hall used to make a large copy of the Musso Bowie with a blade about 3/32s thick and they sold a bunch.

Why do I get the feeling that ole' davee1 has more to do with Galati International than wanting opinions on that wall hanger?

We all know what is said about opinions!:D

But I'm going to opine anyway!

If you feel the need for cutlery that will do things that a 6 inch blade knife won't do, don't get a knife, get a double bit axe, and/or a chainsaw!:p

I, for one, am glad this thread was started...anyone who hasn't yet, check out the original link provided and read that description for some serious comedy.

"...Faux Cocobolo handle..."

"...precision tuned edge..."

"...completes the look of royalty..."

Oh, I needed that this monday morning. :D Okay, back to work.

18/0? So 18% chrome, no nickel? No matter how much carbon it had, this thing would take an edge like a spoon!

That is too general a statement. If the steel has a significant amount of carbon, it could indeed take a good edge. 440A, B and C can have 18% chromium and will have 0% nickel. The steel that is more likely being used for this knife is 430 or 434. The stuff used for forks, spoons and table knives.

Thanks guys for all your replies...I won't be getting that. My tastes are with the likes of the Spec Plus SP14 Tanto. Getting harder to find and not any cheaper. Hard to find for under 30 bucks. When I saw the size of that bowie, it impressed me because it's bigger than my SP14s. Didn't know much about metal composition though.
