Check what I did with this knife.

Good job, that really changed the personality of the knife. I agree that you should strip the coating, it would make it look much more traditional and would decrease the cutting friction. You can easily do that by taking your handle scales off and painting some paint stripper on them, waiting 15-30 min and then scrubing the black off. I got some good stripper at my local big box store, I think its called "EZE-Strip", It works wonderfully. Its more of a gelatin texture than the regular watery stuff so its easy to work with. Your mods look great though!

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to give it a try.

It is always hard to tell much about how alterations to the edge of a knife from a photo posted on the web, but if you are happy with it, I am sure it must be better.

The handle is another story! What you did CLEARLY is how the knife should have come (in my opinion). You handle looks killer, and that orange thing looks like someone bolted on the wrong slab by mistake.

Fantastic work!

Actually I'm pretty good at sharpening. It was a long process though because I don't have power tools... just my stones and a lot of patience. I grew the secondary bevel from a flat 2 mm to at least 6-7 mm and the convex is pretty smooth. I finished it with a Norton 8000, and now all that I have to do to keep it shaving is strop it.
Thanks for the compliments about the handle, and I agree with you that this is how the knife should've come in the first place. In fact, if you look at this knife in the web, they show a picture of a model with a different handle, similar to the one I made. For some reason, the model that ended up for sale had this weird "shortened" slabs that don't make much sense to me.
