Checked out some Kershaws today

Today, while picking up some hunting supplies at Walmart, I checked out some Kershaws they sell. Chive, Scallion, and Leek. They were very tight to open and the assisted opening did not kick in at all. Do these knives have to be broken-in, oiled, or adjusted? I own many knives, including an older Kershaw with assisted opening. I bought it from a knife show several years ago, and it works fine. I presumed it was brand new. I was suprised that these three models were very "sticky", right out of the box. My take on this matter is maybe the blades are very light because of their small size. Has anyone experienced this with these models?

With most new Speedsafe Kershaws, it takes a little time to get them to fire open every time. I don't really know if they are "breaking in" or if the practice teaches you the right way to push on it. But with all my Kershaws, after two days at the most they all fire fast and consistently.

I love the Leek. A big enough knife to handle most jobs, but very very thin - making it extremely pocketable.

I like it too. The medium one, I think the Scallioin, had black coating and was relly neat. The small rascal was a very small blade but definately had it's place in anyones collection. If you know what I mean.

Compared to the Junkyard Dog II and the Cyclone, the Leek is small.
Compared to the Chive, the Leek isn't small.

No, it's pretty cool. I have been reading your posts regarding Kershaws and see you are a fan of them. I will check out some of the fancy ones online. What do you recommend, the Leek?

The Leek is okay...

I guess it is! Very nice. We like the Giant too. Back in the early 1970's the Patriots were blacked out on local t.v. Unless they sold out the game it was not broadcast on local Boston stations. They were terrible back then and never sold out their games. We watched the Giants, which they always broadcasted on channel 5 in Boston. Spyder Lockhart, Fran Tarkenton, etc. We loved the Giants.

I noticed the past tense there. I guess you are on the Patriots bandwagon now? :D

The Colts have their work cut out for them tomorrow, but I am rooting for Peyton.

What can I say, when your hot your hot. Alot has changed in 35 years, but the Giants are still my favorite NFC team. They put them on quite a bit on the Boston stations. The Pats games this year are really not very enjoyable. They have been usually winning by 3 or 4 touchdowns and their games are not very interesting. I'm not complaining that they are winning, just that the games have been over in the first quarter most of time. Tommorows game should be a good one.

You lost me here...What's any of this have to do with Kershaw knives?.

Yes, you're right. Just a little football addicts sidetrack. Kershaw knives are somewhat new to me and I just want someplace to start as far as buying some. I was wondering what steels they use, etc. They are nice and thin and have pretty nice designs. The price seems fair as well. What do you think?

What do I think? I think that the Seattle Seahawks are going to beat the Cleveland Browns tomorrow.:D.:D.

Personally, I think they are the best.
For the quality and CS you get when you purchase a Kershaw....well, they just can't be beat IMHO. If you haven't tried one of the AO's yet you're in for a real treat. The Leek is a nice one to start with. After that you're gonna want this one, that one, 2 of these...before you know it.....you are addicted. ;)
