Some of you may know by now that I'm seldom content to just keep making the same knives over and over. I have to try new things! I was in need of a checkering file the other day to coin a spacer. I texted a buddy who is one of those guys who has everything. He brought me a set of gunstock checkering tools. Not what I'd asked for, but cool none the less. I immediately hatched an idea for a checkered handle bowie. Not being one to tackle a huge project without a trial run, I built this knife.

It is my standard Llano Legend large hunter pattern in 3/16 1084 carbon steel, with mirror polished stainless square fit bolsters and a tapered tang. 800 grit satin finish, 60RC. The knife is 8 3/8 long with a 3 1/2" blade. Comes with a right hand vertical sheath. The handle is checkered Texas Ebony. Price is $400. In the process of checkering, I aggravated my carpal tunnel syndrome. Just now getting most of the feeling back in my fingertips nearly three weeks later.

I did a "work in progress" post for how to do the checkering, for those who are interested in seeing the process.

WIP is here: http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=477849

Wow, that's seriously nice! I especially like that checkering. Gonna have to check out that WIP.
