Let's see how many examples of checkering as a form of knife embellishment we can post in one thread. It might be interesting now and make for a good reference thread in the future.

Here a couple in MOP, checkering by the maker, Hiro Ohta. An English Jack and a Quill.

Those two Ohta's impress the be-jeezus outa me! Heck, all of them look great.

I know that Bob Terzuola has started to do very nice checkering on some of his folders - I just don't have any photos. :( Anyone?

Not crazy about any of these pieces except the Smith and the 1st Corbit. Other than that, no comment.:D

(If you guys stop pulling my chain, I will back off on the commentary, except for where Bailey is concerned.:D )

Now I have to do some homework and digging. This is a topic I find appealing. I could rack this thread up with examples.....

My *very* fave is the Potier. I love the finer checkering examples. I'm not even sure if there is another term for the larger checkering style. Anyone?

BTW, that photo is NOT easy to make the checkering stand out. Buddy made it LOOK easy. MAd SkilLz....

Bob Ogg. This one made me fall in love with checkering.

Jim, I have heard the larger "checkering" called "Quilting".

There are some multi-blade folders I have seen that had amazing checkered black and white pearl, some with Pique, wish I could remember where I saw them, and I apparently didn't save the pics either. Oh well. :grumpy: :)

I know how you guys feel. The Timothy Potier Bowie is, well.... like cheating really. It's pretty special. In Atlanta at BLADE last year, (not last June - but a year ago), Timothy had a beautiful Elephant Ivory Damascus Bowie that he was selling. It had previously sold, as had this one, to a dealer as part of a collection that was sold intact. Timothy, and several prominent makers chose to buy their knives back, as they were all primo examples of their work, and sell them privately themselves - and interesting strategy. I desparately wanted that Ivory handled bowie but I was afraid it would crack out here in Denver so I passed. I think we were both sick about it. He really wanted/needed to sell it and I really wanted it. I hope somebody got it who'll appreciate it. Anyway, here's the whole knife:
