I made this knife testing the idea of a light weight camp knife that could double duty in the kitchen.
I very much succeeded with the light weight, 13 oz in sheath and 9.5 oz for the knife itself.
This led me to realize that, while it could endure some chopping and splitting, it really did not posses the weight to excel.
It is very much at home in the kitchen though.
I have used it for a few weeks now to do various tasks.
It has cut cardboard, carved fuzz sticks, chopped a 2x4, cut leather, and processed a multitude of meats and vegetables.
While it excelled and was very versatile in it's uses, I do not feel that it would fill the role of a long term Camp Knife.
I have decided to let someone else give it a try.

4V is really awesome. It gets screaming sharp like M4 and holds that edge very well.
I heat treated this to have a good balance between toughness and edge holding while keeping the hardness at 62 Rc.
This is not the most refined piece, but it is 100% function oriented.

It kind of looks like the big brother to the Scrapper with more belly.
Where does it balance?
Did you notice any corrosion or patina during the kitchen use?

Fancier,
It balances right at the first pin.
There was a little bit of both patina and spotting.
That is very normal with 4V in my experience and use. It develops much faster than O1 or 10V that I have experience with.
I cleaned most off before pictures but some is still visible when held in hand.

I really like that design! I like a patina because it protects the blade better than most anything else and cleans off pretty easy if need be with a little Flitz or Renaissance wax. 4v is such a great mix of wear resistance and toughness. One of my favorite steels and imho most ingenious as well.
