A few weeks back I found a nice looking 8" Chef's knife (my favorite length, for a kitchen knife), at the thrift store, for 75 cents. Naturally I thought, for that price I can use it as a garden tool, right?

It is an obvious copy of the high-end German stuff, with the exception that the handle scales are a very nice naturaly wood, not black. Fit and finish are every bit as good.
Markings on the blade are:

MARKS IRONWOOD HIGH CARBON/NO STAIN
Forged
Brazil
2110-8

As it turns out, this thrift store bargain takes and holds an incredible edge, in addition to being a very attractive, well-balanced knife. Anyone ever heard of the manufacturer??

Thanks for the info, Greg. Apparently this company was started by a metallurgist from Germany . Has a lifetime replacement warranty and this 8" knife retails for about 55 bucks. Even if you can get one for half that, I'm pretty satisfied with mine at 75 cents. ;-)

Must be an old one as it doesn't say "Mundial" anywhere, but does have the optional ironwood scales. Or "Marks" may be a special run for a private client as, apparently, Mundial has has manufactured products for the leading consumer product companies including Henckels, Chicago Cutlery, and Singer; and also produces the Le Cordon Bleu cutlery line as part of a worldwide licensing agreement with the world’s most prestigious cooking school, in France. Thanks again. I've gotten a lot of entertainment out of 6 bits.
