Well im sure all of you can guess what this is about :P. getting my first peanut :D. but just cant decide on the handle material. (cv blade ofcourse) at first it was going to be a no brainer as the yellow looked somewhat ugly to me... but it seems to be some sort of cancer or somthing..... no matter how much i dont like it, it's growing on me.... so now they are tied head to head. and i like them both. eventually i will get both as it's the bladeforums thing to do.

anyways which do you prefer and why?

Thanks,
Scott

You pays your money and you takes your choice. I would buy the chestnut bone model myself over the yellow. That said, I don't have either at the present. The yellow composition handled peanut is decidedly more classic than the chestnut bone (at least to me), but I like the bone better because it looks wonderful.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Although it's not available with CV steel, the smooth chestnut bone is breathtaking.

In CV, I see the "dark red bone", which is nice. The grooved chestnut bone is beautiful as well, and in CV.
Again, it's only in stainless, but have you seen the smooth orange bone with slanted bolsters? Not the most stunning handle material, but a nice package overall.

In short,I vote for anything but yellow plastic.

My OPINION..... go for the yeller...they are consistent ...chestnut bone is not. I have both, and I like the yeller one better.

It's luck of the draw when you order online.

Been thinking about the same thing myself. I'm likely going yeller. Classic color and it makes finding such a little knife easier.

Now, another color bone might sway me, but there just aren't many options in CV.

Ol' yeller is the way to go if you have to have cv.
I only have one in smooth black g10 but it is a good lookin' smaller knife. Never seems to get as much use as my others though.

My chestnut bone Cv has the best F&F of any of my Case knives both blades centered great snap etc. it's been in my pocket everyday for 14 months and is definitely getting a pocket worn look, the ridges are rounded and smooth now, so along with the patina the scales are showing character. I do like the look of the yellow and some day will pick one up, the shield is much nicer on the yellow, I wish case would leave off the shields on the peanuts, or use something different the script shield on the peanut looks like a jumbled mess IMO.

Either one will serve you well, both look great with patina and have a classic look

+1 on this

While either one is good, I do believe that it is an unwritten law that the first peanut is strongly suggested to be a yella one. I don't think there is any more classic 'nut that a yella and CV. If you use the CV on meat or fish, the developing patina gets a real blueish iridescent effect. That goes well with the yella scales. Yella 'nuts are the rank and file of 'nutdom.

Of course, you are going to end up with more of them, so you're second 'nut can be a chestnut or amber bone. Please notify us soon as you get your peanut, so the a member of the cult can contact you and relate certain information, like the secret handshake and pass word for the meetings.

do the yellow scales age at all? like will they stain and wear? and maybe even fade?
if not i'll get the bone, if they do then i still have the same problem :P

Thanks,

Pretty much no. Being synthetic, they are pretty stable as to color and staining. But, they are tuff as hell, and dimensionally stable with no shrinking or cracking for decades. And as peanuts sometimes can be hard to find if they fall out of a pocket, yella is easy to spot. You can even have a yella collection, of the nuts, and other Case knives with yella handles like trappers, stockmen, pen knife, sodbusters. Everyone needs a selection of yella. It's like having some sharp sunshine in your pocket.:D

I have the chestnut bone, my son has the yellow. Don't think you can go wrong either way, but I prefer the textured feel of the chestnut bone. I like the yellow synthetic, have it on my 32087 pen, but prefer the chestnut bone on the peanut.

I agree the yellow has the better shield, and even more strongly agree that Case should leave the shield off small knives. I know they can, my deep canyon chestnut bone mini copperhead had no shield, and it looked so much better that way.

Just avoid the TTIWWP tag, here are pictures of my and my son's peanuts.

You should be able to pick one up from the place with the helpful hardware man. The yellow, amber bone, chestnut and brown delrin are usually available pretty much anywhere.
