Hello all, been reading all the threads I can about quenching oils. I am new to knife making and have recently been able to produce a few that turned out. Up until now I have been going off what I have read in Wayne Goddards books. I started with using Vegitable oil....then... changed to high temp transmittion fluid. After reading all these post, I feel like ive been doing it all wrong. The one thing I know is that the heat treat is the most important part. So I wish to do the best I can with my knives. That said I dont have any local suppliers that sell AAA, BROWNELLS OR PARKS 50. I am using o1 tool steel. I was looking at the Chevron Tecaco 70 Quench Oil from Jantz supply. Its seems resonably priced even for 5 gallons worth. Anybody have any experience with this stuff as it would be used for 01?

Parks 50 is too fast for o1

It's a 10.5 second oil, it would work as well as Parks AAA, and the mcmaster carr 11 second oil

The oil you mentioned is $50 plus shipping for ONE gallon

or $150 for 5 gallons
Plus shipping

I think the Parks AAA from Maxim Oil would be my choice instead of this one.
or maybe the mcmaster carr, if you have a local store.

shipping and haz mat charges are harsh.

I think anything I purchase is going to cost me in shipping...Dont know of any place that would sell this stuff. Anybody from the Boise Idaho area?

Kelly Cupples is up in Washington state and sells Parks. Shipping one state over ought not to be as bad as shipping from Maxim Oil in Texas.

I am in Boise Id. And occasionally Kelly comes through town and dosen't mind bringing oil. Or I will be going threw Yakima the end of this month and could pick some up for you.
