Cheyenne Bowie

[Mike Carter Custom Knives]

This was another custom project for a great customer who has ordered several knives from me. He wanted a special bowie as tribute to his friend Clint Walker of the old "Cheyenne" TV series.

This bowie was made from 1/8" 440C stainless steel. The 9" x 2 1/2" blade is a flat grind with a convex edge and sharpened clip point and mirror polished. Overall length is 14". It has fileworked stainless steel guard and end cap and silver vine handles with mosaic pins. I also fileworked the blade spine and both edges of the handle tang.

I made two sheaths for this one. In addition to the carved cowboy sheath, he wanted a cross-draw sheath which would be worn with the knife hanging in front of the left leg and drawn across the body with the right hand.

It is silver vine. It's a Japanese vine. I had never heard of it myself until the customer requested it. It is hard to find but some really beautiful wood with intricate patterns.
