Chicago Custom Knife Show this weekend

Well I just got back, had a blast.

Got to spend time with plenty of cool makers, bought myself two cool knives and handled plenty that left me wishing for more $.

A very enjoyable experience.

There were some makers that I missed seeing though, probably because they were not oging to arrive until later. John W. Smith wasnt there yet, and neither was AT Barr. Also missed seeing Tim Herman, was looking forward to seeing his work.

Whew! Pretty good show... I got to meet and chat with quite a few makers whose work I have admired for a long time. Some of the award winners that I can remember were Don Hanson, for a stunning bowie, Scott Cook, and I seem to be brain-farting on the rest.
I got to chat with Darrell Ralph some... really nice guy. I was disappointed there wasn't one of his 12" monsters though! Talked about dogs quite a bit with Mrs. Ernie Emerson... seems we share the same love of Australian shepherds. Got to see Rob Rossdeutscher's famous crowbar kukri! Both Don Hanson and Bailey Bradshaw had some gorgeous fixed blades that made me feel like robbin' a bank. It was an honor to meet and talk with Bob Terzuola. Also spent some time (and money) with Bob Dozier. I ended up getting a Dozier model-6 with natural micarta and an IWB sheath. Bob Dozier had a gigantic stag handled bowie on his table too... never expected to see one like that from him!
Met up with Danbo and drooled over his usual show and tell collection. It was good to see some friends and familiar faces and to meet some new ones. If any of you can make this show Sat or Sun, you'll be glad you did.

WOW!

I'm here and it's been a VERY successful show for me by any measure. Very busy, as you can imagine.

I have heard nothing but positives overall. You will see a LOT of nice photos in a few weeks from me, although others will be taking photos in the show room, I am certain.

Awards?
Best Fighter/fixed blade: Don Hanson (What a fighter! I think it was already posted, but I will have show photos soon) No longer the 'King of gent's folders', but WE knew that!
Best Art Knife: Steve Rapp
Best Fantasy Knife: Peter Martin
Best ??? Scott Cook
Best folder: John W. Smith
Special folder award: Owen Wood

BEST OF SHOW: Ray Cover Jr. for his 'Koi fish' folder. Stunning!

It opens again in 5 mins. See ya.....

:( Sorry you didn't see me. I did arrive late, but my table was up before noon on Friday. I'm not sure when John W. arrived.
