Brian T and PorcupineMtns66 posted on the Chicago Knife Guys social group that we should do a get together. Maybe even a overnight. I'm in. The only weekends that I know don't work for me is Easter weekend and Blade in May.

I found this at Kettle Moraine South (southern Wisconsin). Any other ideas?

Backpack Shelters
Primitive backpack camping along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is available year round only at three designated trail shelter sites. Backpack sites are remote sites, separate from other forest facilities and require a hike of 1/2 mile to 10 miles depending on the parking location selected by the camper. A roofed trail shelter, fire ring, and pit toilet are provided at each site. These sites are not accessible by vehicle, but most have parking areas within a mile of the site. All equipment must be backpacked to the site and all refuse must be packed out.

Reservations are limited to 10 people per night and are limited to one night. However, another site may be reserved for a second night at a second location or a third night at a third site.

Sounds like fun!
Room for 10 might not be enough, I would have to bring my Wife:foot:

I'm from Indiana but that sounds like it would be a blast. A relative neophite when it comes to Busse knives but the ones I have are fantastic.

Kettle Moraine South is some pretty country. And not too far out in the wilderness :)

I've been to Kettle Moraine many times, it's pretty nice but about 2.25 hour drive(thats with a great cruise) at least from where I'm at (near Starved Rock).

Starved rock has some nice waterfalls and such and there is also a few other parks right there.

Matthiessen state park is also near Starved Rock which I'm not sure if I visited.

There is also Buffalo park(haven't been there yet) which is right near the others which is also near Buffalo Range Shooting Park!!

These are all within 15-20 miles of each other. It takes about an hour(longest) to get to these places from 55 in Shorewood. Go to the IL DNR for more info on these, since they all have different restrictions

Also, can Infi virgins join? College isn't cheap.

The more the merrier in my book. I have to warn you though, once you try INFI, you may have to go to a cheaper college. There are some relatively inexpensive outdoor knives like the Cultie, Muskrat or Game Warden that you may want to look into.

I've never camped at any of the above. I don't know if it will be an issue, but do any have have larger, more private camp grounds. A bunch of guys swinging NMFBMs around tends to scare people.

I'm definitely interested. We could do Kettle Moraine, they have some nice group sites. Please keep me up to date on this, as I'm in a Chicago Burb.

All right this is what I can see from the dnr site

Starved Rock
Pros-13 miles of hiking, nice campsites, very nice scenery
Cons-Crowded, a little yuppish(might not appreciate Infi)

Buffalo Rock-Pros-has some buffalo, primitive campsites, next door to a shooting range/ ATV park, 290 acres, not many people
Cons-???

Matthiessen park-Pros-not sure about camping, some people, 1,938 acres, nice area
Cons-Not sure about camping

Kettle Moraine-Pros-pretty nice, 20,000 acres(not sure how much can be accessed),
Cons-Farthest away from chicago(NW suburbs ignore) , can be crowded

Also forgot a park in Marseilles Pros-2,550 acres, only was there once and almost hit a deer...at night.
Cons-not sure about camping

Some have camping some might not. Some have more hiking than others as well. But they are close enough(in IL) that we can go to one park in the morning/noon and another in the afternoon. I think someone(else) should call the parks to see what they allow, camping, reservations, and other information.

Depending on how many people we have in, I am a member of a fish and gun club in Plainfield, IL. It's a nice place with hundreds of acres of land with some nice privacy. I believe it is an option if the group is small (five or so people.) Otherwise, the rules of the club will probably not allow a larger group. I will look into the specific number, so keep me posted.

Buffalo Rock is loaded with ATV and Motocross bikes and gunfire on weekends. It would be like camping next to knob creek during the show. The others around it are a possibility but they book up fast.
I'd be more inclined to pack into someplace away from a tent/camper type campground areas. Doesn't have to be far but just away from others. No doubt there would be alot of knives and the neighbors would freak out.
Kettle Morraine sounds like it fits that bill being away from high traffic areas.

I'm from Indiana...

Dude, that makes you far superior to most right there. :D

Yeah, I'm a Hoosier too. I just have to live up here north of the city...

There are cabins down at Starved Rock but it's been a while since I was down there last. I'm sure there are campsites too.

Kettle Moraine is a really nice area.

I'm up for anything. I just need clearance to get a weekend off since the new kid came along. ;)

On a side note.......... might be heading up to The Porkies late fall (just after bear season when they have been thinned and are freaked out and don't bother you much) for a few days in the back country.

Congrats Brian!
