I spent my childhood roaming the woods around our house, as I'm sure many of you have, and my knife of choice that did anything and everything I ever needed, was a no name swiss army TYPE of knife. Made all the forts (shelters) and stick swords (tools) I could ever need. So tell us all about your childhood "survival" knife and all the stuff it did for you before u found out it just wasn't good enough ;)

I guess I was blade-spoiled as a kid--I had a genuine Victorinox Camper and a laminated K. J. Erickson Mora with a curly birch handle (it had belonged to my grandfather, who gave it to my dad, and I swiped it from his toolbox when I was, like, 5--I only found out it was laminated from my grandfather last year). So I guess even my first few knives are still "good enough." :D

Boy......this brings back some memories :D

For as long as I can remember, I always had a pocket knife in my pocket. Because my dad had a larger version, I had to have a smaller version, and this is it.

The Old Timer :D

I had a bigger woods knife that I used to run around with, playing "Rambo." It is quite embarrassing, but I carried this thing a lot too.

I remember buying that knife at Sears, when they still carried sporting goods stuff, and even sold a couple of guns still.

I carried a Barlow from 8 to about 17 and found my Buck 112 in the Bombardiers hatch on a B52 I was working on, been carrying that one ever since. Still have the Barlow too.

I had one of those for a few minutes too. For about as long as it took my mom to figure out I traded my super nintendo for it. Opps

I had a buck 119 and a small Meuller (sp?) bowie for our takeovers of the treeline surrounding the nieghborhood.

Man I miss those days, I can relive them through my boy though.

I had a Red Ryder folding knife as my first knife, then was gifted a victorinox from my uncle after he vacationed to Swtizerland and toured the factory and brought it back for me with my name engraved on the side, that was my favorite knife growing up

I carried one like this from 1978 till 2003. It was the first "good" knife I ever bought. I did everything from make forts and spears to clean and dress everything from dove and quail to a 220 pound 10 point buck. Not only do I still have it, but I have bought 1 for each of my kids to have when I'm gone.

I had a Buck 110 and a bunch of random fixed blades from the state fair. I'd give every knife I own to get that 110 back.

I had the same Old Timer as Brian for most of my childhood. It's the only knife I have ever lost in my life, and like JMAN86, I would give every knife I own to get it back. OK, maybe not every knife, but at least a few of the good ones. :D

A Normark Little Swede was my constant companion. I still have it here although I did pass it on to my son.

My "childhood survival knife" was a little Plumb hatchet my dad bought me.

Sure, I had a brace of jackknives, don't even know who made them.

But that hatchet. . .I carried it everywhere. I was Daniel Boone in the woods. I'd canoe across the little reservoir where we lived as Erik the Red founding Greenland, or raiding the English coast.

I lost that hatchet on one of our innumerable moves that a construction worker's family has to endure. :(

You aren't the only one I'm sure. I'm 38...... so Magnum P.I. and Rambo were KINGS to me. I had a cap toy pistol that looked just like a Colt 45 so all I needed was a survival knife and I could start stalking the neighborhood. I had to order one of those "survival knives" out of a outdoor magazine. Don't remember which one now. I broke it about 3 years later using it as a stake to tie a aluminum fishing boat up near an island my buddy and I wanted to explore. :o

I bought my girls all Wenger Patriot SAKs.

I had a few different ones. I was lucky, Dad believed in good knives. Every crap knife I ever owned (including a fake SAK and one of those ridiculous survival knives posted above) was against Dad's wishes. I had the Cub Scout knife and a Victorinox. Still have both.

The first knife I had was a cheap folder that came from who knows where. Single blade slipjoint. Dad took it out to the garage and rounded the tip and flattened the edge. It was a test to see if I could handle a knife in a safe manner before giving me a sharp one. He was sitting inside watching TV and kept hearing this scraping sound. I was out on the sidewalk putting the edge back on my knife. :D I was probably 4 at the time.

Had my granpa's old Barlow after he passed when I was 5. At around 7 my dad gave me a schrade lockback( ala buck 110). When I was 10 I saved up and bought one of those hollow handle fb's with compass. That one lasted about 2 weeks lol. Still have the 1st two!

mine was a plain Swiss army knife (flathead screwdriver/bottle opener, can opener, large blade small blade), and a G Wostenhelm & Sons Sheffield (Birmingham England) fixed blade.

man that sucker got wicked sharp........

still have it
