When people started going doe-eyed over spiked tomahawks, claiming they were a great "all around combat weapon" I put my head in my hands and was silent. But now, I find this. If you believe the advertising, you can leave your climbing pick, machete and bayonet at home if you've got this thingamajunk.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's an awesome weapon.

You could harvest a small field of grain with that, too, but you'd have to bake a lot of bread to pay for it.

It needs a spiked fingerguard (bleow) and sharpening or serrations on the back edge.

IWB carry might be difficult.

Looks like a heavy, extra-curved kuku macan. The handle is a bit perplexing.

As per its potential as a weapon... well, I'm fortunate not to have any first hand experience in such matters, but I can say as a layman that I wouldn't want anyone waving that thing at me!

The copy on the website is ridiculous- every bit as bad as dork ops. It's stuff like that that gives knife collectors- and knives- a bad reputation. Boo.

"Fred Perrin has a specialty. He makes fixed blades and folders of every kind; Forges Damascus steel or uses stock removal techniques."

If you make "fixed blades and folders of every kind" then by definition you do not have a specialty.

Look to the third definition.

spe·cial·ty

Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural spe·cial·ties
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English specialte, from Anglo-French especialté, from Late Latin specialitat-, specialitas, from Latin specialis special
Date: 15th century
1: a distinctive mark or quality
2 a: a special object or class of objects: as (1): a legal agreement embodied in a sealed instrument (2): a product of a special kind or of special excellence <fried chicken is my specialty> b: the state of being special, distinctive, or peculiar
3: something in which one specializes

Didn't I see that in one of those "Riddick" movies?

Other than the fact that it's useless...it is kinda...well...neat looking...I wouldn't pay 800 bucks for it even if it was made of gold.

Laci Szabo is a respected knifemaker who focuses on distinctive, stylized "tactical" pieces. He does not deserve to be derided, in my opinion.

After I finished laughing, I came to the realization that anyone who would drop 8 bills on that 'thing', deserves exactly what they get. :barf:

No one has attacked Mr. Szabo. The derision is mainly directed at this "blade" and their marketing.

I agree with this completely. He is talented, and not all of his work is of this "tactical" nature.

EDIT: And he sells Douk-Douks, so how bad can the guy really be.

His website gets more and more far out every time I go there. Now he's got distinctive blood-dripping skull logos. As an anthropologist, I prefer my skulls desiccated.

He has some beautiful designs there. I like most of the straight knives and the UUK and offshoots. I own one of the large butterfly knives built by Fred Perrin. But prices like $800 for that B.S. are B.S.

I climbed some ice with it then hooked a buncha meat but then I tripped and hurt myself with it and that's why I don't do dark ops any more.

our team of researchers successfully spliced the DNA of an ice climbing pick, a dagger, a bolo and a meat hook.
