Children of the Corn Tactical

.......suitable for any situation in the field, perfect tool against rifles with bayonets and other heavier weapons. Probably the best tool for battles in confined spaces. Move over Dr Frankenstein and take your hawk with you, make room for the new era of the Battle sickle.
....heavy with the scent of "Old Spice" after shave.

It's not so much the design......as the "copy". I respect Szabo for his innovation.

Didn't I see that in one of those "Riddick" movies?

Other than the fact that it's useless...it is kinda...well...neat looking...I wouldn't pay 800 bucks for it even if it was made of gold.

If it were made of gold, I'd pay $800 for it.

Laci Szabo is a respected knifemaker who focuses on distinctive, stylized "tactical" pieces. He does not deserve to be derided, in my opinion.

Lacy Szabo has my respect for his designs, they sure are interesting, innovative and attractive. Plus with Fred Perrin on board, how can you go wrong?

That said, the site is pretty silly with the bloodied hands and childish mall-ninja blurbs about the knives. Maybe it´s meant to be tongue-in-cheek (especially the description of the sickle), but it comes across as catering to 12 year-olds.

Plus $800 for that sickle is a touch expensive, you´ll have to admit.

Fred perrin works with laci szabo.... do i really need to say anything more? fred pisses excelence as far as im concerned.

(( Not appropriate to the General Knife Discussion -- as far as I'm concerned. ))

Maybe he overfocused just a wee bit on that one? Additionally, since when is discussing whether a certain knife is pleasing to the eye a bad thing, Phil? Perhaps you could obtain one for the purpose of conducting a 'reasonable evaluation', though I'd have to wish you good luck in determining what would constitute 'reasonable use' of that monstrosity.

Best avatar ever din! mmm borkbork mmm borkbork

Sorry, back to the topic. I would be very afraid to swing it. If you miss what you are aiming for that thing is definitely going to be sticking through an arm or a leg of your own!

Laci is a neat guy to visit with. It's been several years since I got to spend time with him but the man knows his stuff. He is very knowledgeable in several forms of martial arts and I found him to be hilarious. His designs are, for the most part, not my cup of tea but he has some really neat stuff. I don't like them all. I don't like everything about most of them. But there is some good stuff in there.

As for the marketing. It's just that. Marketing. It works for him and the customer base he aims it at. Again, not my cup of tea.......but it works for him.

As far as I know Laci doesn't make his own knives. He designs them and has them made by others.

Yeah, this one is out there. I wish I could get that kind of money for something I made.

If everyone liked every knife, this would be a very boring forum.

Laci Szabo has that far-out, super hardcore, takes themselves way too seriously, hopefully tongue-in-cheek that only Germans can seem to really master. Like Rammstein, for instance.

He seems to be a very talented knifemaker with a penchant for the extreme and over the top.

Of course, this is just my opinion as someone relatively new to knives who doesn't own or really intend to own anything he makes.

...Some of his stuff does look really cool, especially the bali-song picked up by Spyderco. I'm sure it's also well made, and I'm sure some of it is, in fact, specialized weaponry.

Beyond that it gets a little nutty.

Some of his stuff is over the top but, every once in awhile, I want something over the top. Every once in awhile I feel like slaying a zombie. Every once in awhile I also want to spend the night with Lucy Liu. Nether is likely to happen but hope springs eternal.
BTW, every time I visit his site, I'm tempted by a knife called the Ogre.

Not practical, would never carry it, don't need it, but I just find it cool.

With this name, Laci Szabo must be Hungarian. Szabó László I guess.

Dang! "Probably the best tool for battles in confined spaces."

Kinda makes me wish "Ultra" was still around.

SMATCHET!!!!!!

I noticed a couple pcs I liked but most reminds me of Fantasy Blades. And most, not all neglect to list type of steel. I did see a collaboration with Strider listed there.

i think you would be hard pressed to find a knifemaker who could make the battle sickle for $800. think of all the grind time it would take with the curves and double edges.

Laci is a great guy imo. he served with the Marines even though he was born in France. rejoined again after 9-11 and currently is a member of a SWAT team in Florida.
