China slipjoints?

I have experience only with Rough Rider.

Their Gunstock series(not the knife pattern but chequered bone in dark green or brown)is clearly better quality than their usual models. Fit and finish has been remarkably good on the Mini Trapper, Peanut and Copperhead I have, price is low but the feel is not.

They APPEAR to be good user/beater knives, but let's check on that again in a year or two...It is a good way of acquiring unfamiliar patterns at low cost to see if you like them, and then move on to something costlier later. However, as has been pointed out, WHO KNOWS what kind of dyes or bones are used? COULD be toxic as both the EU and US seem to apply much weaker criteria on importing Chinese goods than they do from each others' manufacturers! You buy an American, european or Japanese knife and you can be sure they are not made from dubious or possibly harmful products, not so sure about Chinese merchandise. Anyway, they are certainly not cheap rubbish products in my experience-so far. Want another cheap knife that seems good? Try German Bull they claim to be German anyway...

Hey guys, I make my living by trading spot forex. I know you want to seperate politics from this discussion but do you know what the chinese said yesterday? they want to invest a trillion in other currencies than our dollar. An announcement like that is like driving a knife into the US economy. All over the world every country is jumping on the band wagon selling dollars. My opinion you should just do you best not to buy chinese. Walmart and the like have made a deal with the devil. That doesnt mean you have to. To the thread starter, just live without the cheap knives, all of us need to take a pass on it. Do without. everytime we buy made in china we are handing money over to our enemies.

Exactly. Why would you support a country out to kill us? Our sold out representatives in Washington do a good enough job of that.

Shipwreck, this is not the forum for discussing political perspective.

The original poster posed a question, let's stay on target. There are other areas of this and other boards to present political opinions.

Hey guys, remember what Blues said. This is neither the point of the thread, nor the appropriate place to discuss political views.

Good point! Look at all of the kids' toys they're pulling off the shelves. A good way to color or dye things is to use (potentially toxic) heavy metals. Also remember that bone and stag are animal products. If not properly decontaminated, they can carry some nasty stuff - Look at that drum maker in Brooklyn that caught anthrax a couple years ago from handling improperly cured animal skins.

Please don't yellow card me on this one - not trying to be political, just discussing the potential concerns of these items - I'm an environmental engineer BTW.

This thread has continued to cross beyond the bounds of this forum and is being closed as a result.

Infraction issued for this.

I guess you should have listened.

This one also.

That is what happens when rules and straight up warnings are ignored.
