China Syhndrome

Well. All I wanted to know, is that "given a choice" between a 173 or 179, I would obtain the one made in USA. Doing so, not as a "ChiBuck is not a Buck" stand, but to support US workers when I do have a choice.

No sweat, you asked a perfectly valid question, sorry that your thread got taken off course by the "China Buck whine".

Actually, you informed me my knife "wasn't much of a Buck", and you were wrong. Were the Camillus contract knives not "real" Bucks?

If Buck contracts it and puts it's name on it, it is a Buck product.

No, just tired of seeing all the whining about knives made offshore, in a county that alledgedly adheres to free market capitalism, in a forum that's supposed to be about knives.

In the new issue of Knife World, that arrived this morning there is an excellent article about chinese made knives. I suggest you read it. Buck is simply diversifying in an entirely logical manner, to meet all markets.
Schrade failed to and look how that turned out.

Would you like to see Buck go under also?
Go under what ?
The Rolls, instead of having a service boy do it ( oil change)
Confederate.. from IL ? :jerkit:
Buck is a sellout BOY.

Chucklezz Buck`lezzz could take a lesson.

Pick up a history book "boy", many people from the southern most counties of Il. went South to fight for the C.S.A. And many familes here are from the South, as is mine.

Educate yourself.

And just how is Buck a "sellout"?

There's nothing wrong with putting your money where your mouth is and doing what you can to support American jobs, hell I'm a Canadian and I will always buy American before buying Chinese. Always. However I do buy Chinese made knives and quite like many of them, particularly Buck's. Manufacturing in China is not just an effective way to keep the final purchase price down for consumers it is aneccessary strategy for survival in the manufacturing world of today. I'm sorry to say this but some of these anti-Chinese rants come uncomfortably close to racist IMHO. Everybody should have a right to work for a living.

Thought this thread was dead.
Am certain that there are racists here on the forum as there are in any sizable group. So, as in all posts, can only type for myself...
I have a Mantis 198, a few Cold Steels (Japan), some various other Chinese made knives, I myself was made in Japan, and am half asian. I'd have a pretty tough time being a racist.
Will buy American, when I can, but don't lose any sleep over it if I can't. Choice is good.
Why am I justifying myself for a few peeps I really don't give a shit about? Guess it's for whirled peas.
I need a break...
Buck Extremist,
Goose.
