and at a whopping $2.78 i cant see how they afford to make them ??

I've read (sorry, can't remember the source) that the factory sales prices for Chinese knives
can be as low as $1, and sometimes even lower than $1.

Strictly speaking, a knife is just made of some pieces of metal and plastics that are assembled.
When using cheap materials and with wages below $100/month these factory sales prices are
quite realistic as no high tech is necessary for producing low quality knives.
