Chinese made Buck knives

Much as it saddens me to say it, the fit and finish of the China-made 303 appears to significantly better than the f/f of the current USA-made 300 series knives.

I really like Buck knives but wish Buck would improve the quality of the USA-made 300 series knives. I try to buy American when I can and I'm willing to pay a reasonable premium to do so but only if the quality is there. To me, the f/f is part of the overall quality.

Just my $.02.

Luck of the draw perhaps. I have 100+ USA 300 series slipjoint knives and no complaints. I also collect the ChinaBuck 370 & 380 series knives and while I do think the cosmetic quality is quite good the only two pocket knives I have had the scales fall off of (unglued) are a ChinaBuck 303 and 389.

This thread contains photos showing some of what I'm referring to:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ere?p=16311849&highlight=quality#post16311849

In the photos in post #1, take a look at the deep tool marks in the nail nick. Also, the nail nick itself appears to be overly large and deep. Finally, in the photo in post #14 look at the notch between the tang and the very rear of the sharpened edge. It's sloppily cut.

Here's another thread discussing iffy blade grinds:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1403527-Buck-bevel-grinds-*from-the-factory*

Other comments have been made to the effect that it looks like Buck used 100 grit belts to put on a very rough edge.

Finally, here's a link to a Youtube video comparing an old Buck 303 with a new one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvyF7CrfKT0

The reviewer shows several areas where the old knife (although made by Camillus) was superior to the newer production Buck 303. He doesn't recommend the new 303.

If you have 100+ USA 300 series I'm guessing the vast majority of them are older production and they may be fine. My comment was directed at the recent production 300 series. Like I said, I really like Buck knives. I just wish they'd do a better job of QC on their current production USA-made 300 series. :)

HTH
Regards

Well I dropped it in the Kitchen last night and had to reglue the Buck logo into the scales since the logo popped right out. Also since I got it back the Sheep foot blade walk walk n talk is about a 3 out and a 1 closing but I'm not sending it back again since I have several old knives with same issues. I just will not buy anymore China bucks.

Quality should be on part or better than 20 or 25 dollars. At factory sales they run 8 dollars. I'm not too critical at this price point but totally agree they should be of good quality.

Yes the sheep's foot was gritty but had a ok walk n talk . I sent it in for that and proud scale pins.

I think there was a few Bucks made in Japan too..I do buy 99% made in the USA Bucks but there are a few China Bucks I wouldn't mind having at all.
