Chinese made Kershaw Vapor

I would have to go with The Magician on that one. I think that if it is being made in Taiwan it would be marked as such and it is absolutly marked as China.
But I would also say that with about 30 seconds of elbow grease you can take off the china mark and it doesn't come from anywhere but my pocket.

Taiwan and China are still embroiled in a bitter civil war with both sides still claiming, (although less loudly on the Taiwanese side) legitimate soverignty over China. Taiwan is known as the "Republic of China" while Communist China calls itself "The People's Republic of China". So, when a blade is marked "China", it could go either way, although most Taiwanese blades will be marked Taiwanese.

Now, although I need not qualify myself before I make the following statements, It seems that I must due to the close-minded attitudes that exists here.

I am an American... born and raised New Yorker. My parents are from Taiwan, raised under the KoumingTang government, sworn enemies of the communists whom up till only a few years ago was still planning on retaking mainland China. When I wore green, Reagan was President, I trained to fight the Soviet Union. Time has certainly changed quite a bit. The Russians are our friends, China has become the bad guy, and America is still land of the Free and home of the Brave. Well, it ain't so.

Russia has introduced so much more crime to the United States since it became our "friends" in the form of Organized Crime, Prostitution, drugs and illegal guns.

China is still providing cheap labor in the form if new immigrants, and cheap goods that most Americans could not afford if they were made in the US. As for Chinese being oppressors? who have they oppressed? their own people? well, I would think they have the right to do that... We Americans have oppressed many times more than most other countries (maybe with the exception of England and France). Americans oppress their own as well. Have you neglected to read about Randy Weaver? What about Waco? or any of the BATF and FBI fiascos?

Why are we even talking about the Chinese when governments can actually trace American dollars going from gasoline purchases, into Saudi banks and then moving on to terrorist fronts? No, the news won't talk about it cause everything runs on Arab oil and the oil industry is a major lobbying force.

No, people need an innoculous villian. Governments need to create a clear enemy who they can rant and rave at safely, and of course the sheeple to believe them.

If I buy something that says "Made in the USA" does that really mean assembled in the USA with parts manufactured in China?

..that can be of foreign manufacture. So, as long as a certain product meets those requirement, the answer is may very well be YES.

Indeed. Let's get our facts straight. The CRKT knives are made in Taiwan. Kershaw Vapors are made in Japan (early) or CHINA (recent).

I have owned all three. So, unless Taiwan is making blades marked CHINA, then you are incorrect. I have owned many CRKT and both make of Vapors. They are both excellent EDC type knives.

Doh! Stupid me. My collection is gettin pretty big, so sometimes I get the particulars of each knife messed up. Yup, you guys are right, my Kershaw Vapor II does indeed have the word "China" stamped on it. My mistake.

If you all wish to debate the relative merits/demerits of the USA and the Peoples Republic of China, may I suggest that you take the debate to the Political Arena? It is really more appropriate for that forum.

As to whether the knives are made in the Peoples Republic of China(mainland China) or in the Republic of China(Taiwan), has anyone bothered to contact Kershaw and ask them?

A knife made in Taiwan would not be marked "Made in China", since it's "Made in Taiwan".

It's like making a knife in Japan and marking it "Made in China", it's just not logical. There's no advantage to having it marked that way, and I've never seen it done that way before.
