Chinese New Year

Roger that, Bill.

Why can`t we have some fun, education and challenge thinking at the same time?

They are old enough to wield a khukuri.

I am an old Asia hand. One thing that I learned is to not go hunting Tigers; unless you expect to find one.

James, Sing, Novadak, Will & FNG --- Is "Chap Goh Meh" still being celebrated in west? If I'm not mistaken ... "Chap Goh Meh" is being celebrated on the 14 days of the Chinese New Year ... whereby unmarried ladies throw orange to sea ... the gent who collect it is believed to be her life partner! Novadak --- maybe you don't have to throw orange any longer ... just post it via Express mail ... BTW, Pakcik Bill knows my home address ...

Thanks Mohad.

I am 4 1/2 hrs. from the coast by jet.

I reckon that this child will have to pass.

Throw orange is as good as any other method.

I will keep it in mind.

Barb and me have been together since March,1987 and this is the one the way I always knew it could be as well as the one the way marriage is supposed to be IMO.
And we're absolutely delighted to be together 24/7/12/365 now that Barb is retired!!!!!!!
Sometimes life can be very very good!

LOL! I hadn't heard of that particular custom, but I'll be sure to tell my friends about it! (wondering if this tradition was made up by fishermen, surfers, and beachcombers?)

Here's a funny thing -- I was going through some stuff the other day, and came across a lai see packet from two years ago that I still hadn't spent! I think I am going to start the new year off right and send the money to someone who could use it.

Mohd,

I did not know about that tradition. I was born in Canada and don't have much exposure to Chinese culture.

Novadak, Uncle Bill I think it would be a good idea to make a seperate new post with a link to the thread as Novadak has done so everyone can see it.
Brian's a good kid and deserving of help IMO.
I would do it, but wanted to run it past you first.

My little knowledge in Chinese culture might have led you to some confusion --- Sometimes I couldn't differentiate between local Chinese tradition and mainland base Chinese tradition. Anyhow this web site might help to give some light on Chap Goh Meh ...

BTW, few days ago I saw a Lion Dance at KLCC Twin Tower. As always ... Lion Dance is a very eye catching show! BTW, KLCC Twin Tower is the current highest twin towered building in the world!
