I'm happy that the company is coming out with some purely tactical knives for those who want it done the spyderco way.
Now, we don't have to think, is this AFCK any good, oh, the REKAT lock is strong, but where's the hole?
I think what the tactical buyers want is:
1)excessively strong lock
2)fast presentation of knife
3)handle that resists all sorts of slipping and protects fingers from slipping up onto the blade
On the Chinook, this looks interesting, in fact I almost asked James Mattis to reserve one for me, before realizing that it was a bit too big for my daily carry(sorry,James).
But upon further thinking, I think I am more inclined to BRAM's Gunting and Sal's Temperence. That Chinook has a bowie-style blade, but other than that and it's superstrong lock, what has it got that makes it better than any other high-end tactical folder? Besides the hole? Neither does the handle shape excite me. Maybe someone can enlighten me here.
BRAM's Gunting is probably the most serious in purpose of the lot, it is made to cover the gap from empty hands to blunt weapon to cutting. But to use it well, you got to do it BRAM's way. If you don't do this, the knife may not be so good for you, correct me if I'm mistaken here.
The Temperence will probably have some familiarity to all spyderco users. This one I know I won't go wrong if I get it.
In short:
Temperence Jr--yes
Gunting--thinking
Chinook--if Temperence wasn't around, maybe
