For anyone who's interested, I offer the following. With the disclaimer of course, that I am no pro shutter bug by any means.:) Still, I thought you might like to see some real-life pictures instead of the stock catalog photos we've all seen.

I wanted a Chinook since the first time I handled one of the originals, even though it's generally much larger than what I typically carry. It's just so dang impressive and solid feeling that I told myself I had to get one simply because. When I read of the II's coming out, I decided to wait for those and I'm glad I did. Not to take anything away from the original of course.

Initial impressions? Big, stout, and solid as heck. Glad to see the standard pocket clip as opposed to the semi-circular one I'd seen in other pictures. Outstanding grinds and overall finish. Wicked sharp. Satisfying "ker-rack" on lock-up. Easy to deploy, easy to close. Smooth action. Beveled spine- a nice touch- but I can't recall if the originals had that treatment or not. Beyond that I can't say as I just got it, but time will tell. Definitely built to be used, no question there. I pretty much like everything about it so far.

If you're thinking about getting one, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Spyderco should be real proud of this one.

Great pics. Last I heard, and from what I've seen of pictures of it, the Chinook II was going to have two different clips: one for tip up and one for tip down. It needed two clips because of the way the holes were positioned on the handle. If all of the II's are going to come like the one in your pics I may order one after all. I have a soft spot for the regular 3-screw clip! Can anyone shed any light on this?

They decided to implement the 4-way positioning with a single standard 3-screw clip. Naught more to it than that.

Very valuable pictures, easily worth several thousands of words. :)
I sure would like to find one I could buy.

That's just because the Chinook II looks to be one of the strongest, most functional folders around and priced right and not because I bought what may be the last Nemesis, right?

More painful than even the one Mr. Bible posted.

This is one of the things that impresses me about Spoyderco. The original version was fine. They could have left it alone. But, Spyderco decided they could make it even better and did. Not many companies strive for perfection like Spyderco. I, for one, really appreciate that.

I intend to get a Nemesis as well.
The Nemesis and the Chinook II share robustness and quality, but the blade shape and the price of the Chinook II make it different from a Nemesis and my first choice for purchase.
This makes the Nemesis no less a must have.
The Chinook II has every feature I have wanted in a knife since I first started thinking about these things way back when, and strangely, so does the Nemesis; two very different knives that serve a similar purpose, each in its own way.

Spyderco kinda snuck up on me with this one.
I just want to get Chinook II now and I can't find one anywhere.
I have one other knife (Fairbairn-Sykes "X" Dagger) on my must have list, and if I get that knife I might start lookin' for a SpyderFly.
In any event, I think Spyderco has created the most desireable folding knife in the world, especially considering price, and I expect a continuing shortage of this knife.

Thanks for the pics. I really like the original Chinook and have not decided if I prefer the new blade shape and grinds or not. I am going to have to get my hands on one I guess.

I agree with you there, Ken. A pointy, deep-bellied clip-point with a deep, hollow grind, top notch materials and craftsmanship (based on my other Spydies), a very strong lock, and an attractive price.

What's not to like?

Dennis,

That's still funny, but it's getting creepy. :)

Thanx for the kind comments.

I might also add that thanx to Tourist's comments as well as a few others, we are making a concept model with a "Temperance" style leaf blade shape for the Chinook II.

We'll get reactions at SHOT.

Also, we don't expect to be short on delivery for very long, production is running smoothly.

I'm not sure how I would like the leaf point on the Chinook. I would have to see it to say for sure. I will say that Spyderco needs a nice drop point recurve in its lineup. ;)
