Does anyone know what years the Spyderco Chinook III was manufactured?

Just for curiosity, models I and II, if you already know?

If you are daring enough to take your blade off, the month and year are etched into the blade right by the pivot hole.

Thanks for that info.

But if it ain't broke, I ain't a gonna fix it!

ie - It works too well for me to jack w/ it.

Thanks again. :)

fyi, I was surprised the Chinook III came and went so quickly in Spyderco's catalog. As it is a GREAT knife.

The only problem I can see is that it might be a bit on the heavy side for those of us who wear shorts a lot. Shorts w/ nothing but a flimsy elastic waistband to hold them up. It might pull on them a bit.

Yes, the Chinook is a backcut special. Hence the super strong lock.

Modern Knives Issue 3 does a good job of showing how to save one's knuckles by rotating the hand and countering w/ a backcut using the point.

From what I've seen in the forums, not too many people know the Chinook line is for backcutting.

I love my Chinook3 ,it was my first Spydie in a long time besides a crossbill and was impressive enough that I ordered a Police and bought a KXO6P kitchen knife (plain edge).
I bought the Chinook because it is a capable back cutter and I usually practice knife fighting with my bowie.
I apreciate a sturdy knife like the Chinook 3 but it is a limited market. I am just glad Spyderco made it in the first place. Maybe there will be a Chinook4 with CF scales to cut down the weight even more?

IIRC:

C63 James A. Keating Chinook 2000 - 2003
C63 James A. Keating Chinook II 2004 - 2005
C63GP3 James A. Keating Chinook III 2006 - ?

:)

Thanks. So the series has come and gone since the millennium.

It is a great knife. I am surprised it isn't recommended more.
