I've had this knife since Feb'08.I find myself carrying the chinook3 more often than others lately.
This is one of my favorite knives of all time. It's a thick,hvy-duty folder with perfect ergonomics & a hair-popping sharp s30v upswept skinner blade. It has a backlock that makes a noticable "click" when opening.Locks up like the proverbial vault:thumbup:.It's my favorite spyderco to date.I'm surprized I don't hear/read about it more often.Maybe when the s90v millie craze is over?;)LOL.

Sorry for starting a whole new thread for stating the obvious, but this knife deserves more credit than any other spyderco IMHO.:D

The Chinook III is a great design. Big, soild, tough.

What else can I say about it? Very hard use folder.

Forward grip, reverse grip. It just feels so good in the hand.

Wicked looking blade too. Yeah, I like it alot.

Yeah I love mine too. It gets a lot of carry time and use. The g-10 itself feels good in the hand and that solid lock lets you know its ready for business. Never got to handle a manix so I wonder if its the same feel. Chinook III was one of the smartest knife buys as I was looking for a heavy duty solid folder with a little bit of different.

I've only got the Chinook I and II, the latter being very similar to the III except for the hollow grind.
I prefer the beafy handle and the less slippery jimping of the Chinook I, but I carry the Chin II more often because it offers tip-up carry.

Today I got a Manix, and I love it!
It has got the flat grind (like the Chin III), a heavy jimping, and when I grab its handle it feels like it's made for my hands. For me, the Manix offers even better handle ergonomics than the Chinook.
The Manix is probably the better EDC knife/tool, but I still love the Chinook for its looks and capabilities as an SD knife.

Wow, I have the Chinook III and it's the most comfortable folder I own.
Now you're making me want a Manix even more. Hopefully Spyderco makes one with the Ball lock (fingers crossed).

Get a Manix. If you love your Chinook you will definitely love the Manix.

Big Manix or 83mm, they're both great knives. You won't regret owning one.

Hello JTR357

don't be sorry.
The Chinook 3 deserve it.

Great knife.

Great. Great. Great.

Can you spot any other company which will give the opportunity to upgrade three times a great design.

So much to tell. The Chinook 3 was my Silent Friend in wild lands and perform as design !
'nough said. (love this)
JM

I love my Chinook3 ,it is a bit big if you are used to knives like the Caly or UKPK but is still pocket sized and it sits deep in the pocket when clipped.

I like it for clamshells although my Mule is a bit better. Because of the tip you can put the
clamshell on a cutting board and put a LOT of force down on the very small tip alowing a very easy way to slice through. You do have to make sure the very tip of your blade is in good shape though and sharp.
