Recommendation? Chipbreaker vs 1x30 with quality ceramic belts?

I was defending the 1x30 earlier in the thread. Then I got my Ameribrade 2 days ago with VFD and built a vertical/horizontal stand for it, and... yeah it’s so much better. It’s a big investment but so far, no regrets.

I think a 1x30 is worth the money, but the tool has limits. I wasn't able to do the flats with it and went back to files for that part. It is a big time saver for profiling and rough handle work.
At 30 bucks it's not a bad tool to have while you're saving up for a 2x72.

Exactly, I don't think anybody is saying any of HF's belt sanders could match or beat a proper 2x72 lol. HF is just the cheapest way to get into ANY hobby that requires tools.

I'm currently suffering with their 4x36 and I hate it more every time I use it. However, I'm still able to practice making knives and although sometimes I struggle with my chinesium tools... At least I can still make knives (albeit very slowly)! I'd rather do that than wait 5 years until my children aren't so expensive and I paid off other debts I already had in my life before knifemaking became an interest! :)

I ordered a Pferd Chipbreaker, to see how well that works in hogging off material. If that works well enough, it should allow me to just put away money for a 2x72 in the meantime.

I may also look at portable bandsaws and tables so I can cut the blanks out quicker. Hacksaws are still slow and not as accurate as I would like.
