Yep, heat treating blades is no walk in the park, but in a way, it's a lot like cooking. I've had issues with Valiantco blades too, so I no longer buy them.

I was never offered a refund for my khukuri by Yangdu like the OP was...all I got was hostility from the guys here.

hi all
i must say this ive got just about every type of h.i. kuk going through
various deals ive done with friends over time still aint got a kobra yet
though each one is in pristine condition not a blemish on any one got most from a fellow forumite most might know as andreas solomi now because of the quality being top notch ive yet to find anything better by any other kuk maker even the blems ive found are better than some other kuks made as new im not saying the odd bad one dont get out but ive never had one from h.i.and ive found aunty the most reasonable person to deal with what went wrong in the other case i dont know but im sure it can still come to an amicable agreement more power to your elbow jangdu (as we say here). Jayink hi i dont think the guys here were intending to come across as hostil far from it i belive what they were asking it was why you brought you complaint to an open forum first instead of getting in touch aunty jangdu first and giving her the chance to resolve the issue with you direct try again you may be pleasantly supriesed
regards to all mick

Hi Mick,

I just wanted to know if other people had had similar issues and I also wanted people to know how I felt about what I'd received. Since this is HI's forum, I'll refrain from mentioning other makers. I guess I will go ahead and e-mail Aunty.

Interesting that you've had nothing but perfect khuks from HI! Sounds like the older ones may have been better.

Jayinhk,

You cannot help to sense the hostility amongst us because of the link you had as your signature, basically a clear indication there's beef.
I can understand your point of anger but wouldn't it be all win-win had you contact Aunty and i needn't say more, the most customer-oriented person ever.
If Uncle is still around, he would do the same too.

Again, if you are going to run a business in the future, the last thing you want is a customer blasted on your products as if it is trash and continuously blackmailing on you.
It's darn easy but we are all walking a wheel of Karma as well.

It doesn't hurt to send an email to Auntie about your case.
The longest i've waited for her reply was 2 days (different time zone and yet she make every effort to do it) .
I have yet to see anyone choked swallowing their pride.

After all, we are still quietly dreaming about the next good khukuris.
H.I never failed to deliver.:D

No Pun intended.

I guess i should chime in here at this point.

When you purchase from a DOTD here, you must realise that a majority of these pieces are blems. Most have a pretty deep discount as compared to their retail price. The best stock is kept for retail sales, if you demand a perfect piece, then you should probably be buying from the retail store. A simple email to Auntie Yangdu asking for a clear description/clear pictures before purchase may help in your decision. If you are dissatified with your purchase, proper ettiquette would be to email Auntie with your concerns and allow her the chance to make things right BEFORE posting anything here on the forums.

I find Jayinhk's sig to be in poor taste if only because this is Yangdu's house and he feels OK pooping in it.
He should feel lucky it isn't my house, I'd rub his nose in it like I do any bad dog.

I had a bad one and wasn't offered a refund either Jay, difference is I didn't spend the rest of my life trying to take it out of her hide.

I'm very happy with all my HI products. If I did get a lemon I'd use the famous HI customer service and get it right instead of crying and whining about it on-line.
I have a nice collection of fighting knives and I'd recommend HI highly to anyone as a top notch product.

To buy a weapon clearly marked as 23 ounces and then complain it's too heavy shows a problem with the buyer not the seller. You could have most likely swapped with Yandu for something more to your liking.I have a 17 ounce fighter from the Sgt that is true perfection for me.I didn't have the knowledge or experience to get it first time out.I learned what I wanted.
With speed and sharpness comes less indestructibility. That's the way it works.Use the right tool for the job.Specialists have their place as do good general purpose tools.Something great for vines will not be best for old tree stumps. That's a fact of life.

Anything with an edge can be chipped or rolled. If you don't believe that you're a novice. The sharper and thiner an edge the more efficient at slicing and chopping at the cost of being more easily damaged.I've seen wood that axes and chainsaws had trouble with. You chop that hard enough with a knife or khukuri you're going to have problems.Every problem is not always the tool.
Technique and judgment also comes into play.

Jayinhk, I'm gonna be blunt: Your passive aggressive issue with HI is getting really tiresome and starting to irk me. You strike me as someone walking around a Ford lot kicking the tires and talking about how much better Hondas are. i have seen this behavior here before. It isn't new, it isn't novel, it really isn't effective. Just $.02 from a guy that's been around these forums for a bit.

You said that you will vote with your wallet from now on, and you said that you would contact Yangdu directly. I suggest you do just that and quit waving your dirty diaper around the forum...goes doubly for your cute sig.

Ditto. Jayinhk, it's fundamentally unfair to publicize your complaints on HI's own forum (for which they pay a substantial fee) before taking the matter up directly with Yangdu. You're the kind of customer most folks (including myself) would rather not deal with at all.

hi jayink
as ive said earlyer most of my kuks were aquired from other collectors hence most if not all were mint. on occasion ive bought my own that ive had no problems with at all and what ive said about aunty still gose play the game with her and h.i. and they'll play the game with you
cheers mick:thumbup:

It's good to see you again, Bill:)

You never gave her the chance. You still have yet to contact her about this matter. Had you contacted her in the first place, things might have been different. After the things you said, it's no surprise that you werent offered anything and felt hostility. You are expecting her to pay a price for shipping you a "substandard" khukuri, which was sold as a Blem. What price should you pay for your actions in this matter and your sig line?

Life's too short for acrimony.

situation stated, solutions posited, action required.

Ttttthhhhhaaaatttt's all, Folks !!!!

Hello Jay, FYI I'm back in pg.

Just got my new Dhar CAK (the model I was complaining I didn't get :)) and it's a beauty. Will be taking it out to the woods soon :)

I collect choppers and I can tell that HI khuks are above average (haven't pushed to the limit so can't tell ultimate performance) from my collection. You won't be disappointed so give it a another go.

Hi Karda,

I still wanted people to know what I'd received--if I receive bad service from a company or organization, I let it be known. I feel I've been treated unfairly for being unhappy with my HI product, so the sig line remains so people can make their own decision. I wasn't going to say anything else until this thread popped up. I see I'm not alone in being disappointed. I was astonished by the poor fit and finish of the HI compared to the alternative, especially given the price. If I'd received a khuk with only the defect described, I'd be happy.

I'll send Yangdu an e-mail later today...gotta get to work, so I don't have time to read/respond to everyone's replies.

Cotherion,

Are you staying around the island?
Want to meet up?

my cell # is 012-494-2135.
Let me know if you want to go for a chop chop.

See ya.

Jay

Once again, I would suggest that you take the time and energy you are using to respond here to email Yangdu instead. The effort you spent replying to Karda could have been better spent contacting Yangdu about your issues. I'm going to go right out and say it. I don't think you ever plan on TRYING to resolve this issue. You are quite content to pi$$ and moan and stir the pot. If not, prove me wrong. Man up, and contact Yangdu.

Personally, I'm done with you and consider you a troll. I will be watching your actions in this forum.

Hi Steely,

I definitely will be contacting Yangdu later. I've held onto the khuk because I want to compare it to a KHHI Sirupate of the same size which I should be receiving in a week or two. I also wanted to see if the Kobra would grow on me. It hasn't.

There are threads on here where people have talked about the issues they've had with Benchmade and Spyderco products, among others, and nobody's told them to keep their mouths shut about the issues they've had. I'd personally rather know if a manufacturer's product was subpar than not know at all. I'm sure I'm not alone.

It's good to see you again, Bill:)

Hello SG. Been spreading myself a little thin lately I guess. Hate to see Yangdu subjected to such shabby behavior so I just had to chime in. Thanks for the invite bro. :)

Jayinhk, ... I suggest you do just that and quit waving your dirty diaper around the forum...goes doubly for your cute sig.

I really didn't want to pile on, but the more I think of it the more offended I am by your signature line. I doubt you'd be rude enough to say it to the folks here face-to-face, and I can pretty much guarantee that if you did, you'd be straightened out pretty quickly. It shouldn't surprise you that an insulting sig line doesn't draw much sympathy for your complaints -- your big s-eating grin at the end doesn't make it any less an insult.
