Chiruwa Angkhola

The Sgt's handles always have such a wondrous fine flare; I'm a fan.

That said, a 26" CAK? Holy jumpin'! At that weight, you couldn't take but 4 or 5 whacks at a stretch. But of course, anything after the first would be superfluous ...

Man, what a bear. Glad I didn't see it til it was gone.

It has that "Khadka flare" handle too. Super-collectable khuk right there. There will be some anguish among the HI fanantics at seeing this unicorn ride by.

Chiruwa adds strength but adds weight, so.. I dunno. That one is built for a giant.

I'm lucky enough to have 2 20" khuks- a villager at 1 lb 15.3 oz. (light and pointy) and a reg. handle AK one at 2 lb 1.5 oz. Both are manageable.

A reg. handle 25" AK is on my list (Neem, Bura, silver fittings :foot: ).

if it had been 70oz, i think i would have gone for it... i like my 30" ang khola at 84oz, but i wouldnt mind haveing it be a little shorter to keep the weight managble. or rather - i'd like a second khukuri at 84oz thats 25" in order to have a comparison.... it wouldnt replace the 30", but rather compliment it..

that thing is really bueatiful though. at any size, thats a nice looking ang khola.

sorry i didn't get it, but glad it's gone :) that way i wouldn't have had to buy it today :)

to whomever got it, when you're tired of it, let us know :)

Wow! THAT's the one I wish I had snagged 2 years ago. I have a 26.5" 72 oz. horn CAK that is a bit too heavy. 60 oz. would be just right, and the Sarge's handles are slimmer and it has a standard bolster and the cho in the right spot. It is also about $100 less than what I paid.

I have a 25" Father AK, without Chiruwa handle and it comes in at 58 oz., so he did a great job of keeping this balanced. Both my big ones are by Sher, who did do a good job on the big blades, keeping them perfectly straight and the handles lined up very well. Until this big guy here I think Sher had this size locked up.

Great buy and nice snag.

Norm, whats a Father AK?

You mean, like, father of the brood?

My own 25" AK is by Sanu and quite light.

there was a batch of 26.5" ang khola's that uncle bill sold here a while ago. it was actually in between when i orderd my 30" ak and when it arrived.

if its the same ones, they had a one handed grip with horn handles and a chiruwa tang. mine had really nice white streaks running through it...

i found that i liked the 2 handed grip better, because the weight left to one hand was difficul to manage. i can do it now with the 30" ang khola, but i still dont feel quite stable enough to actually try it on wood one handed.

if i could get a 30" ang khola weighted blad in a 25" package, but with the 2 handed grip, i'd be very very happy :D

i think both of mine were by sher.. i know the 30" is...

i like splitting tools :D

im noticing that a lot of the larger blades now have a bit of ganga ram influence near the tip. in that the front section between the top fuller and the tip dips down a lot, giving it a more oval front.

A maniac or a Sasquatch. 70oz. is a monster blade. Heck, 60oz. would do me in!

The Shop 1 20" AK typically came in at between 3 and 4 lbs. I've got a somewhat custom one on order that is supposed to have a 5/8" thick spine, that way it should come in at the 3-4 lb weight. Call it a touch of nostalgia and reading Cliff Stamp's review a few times too many. :o ;) :D

mmm, i like the GRS shape... a lot of the AKs i've seen, and the ones i own, when places on a GRS of the same size, have nearly identical profiles in many ways - same bend, very much the same distributions... the AKs are thicker and a tad more tip heavy, better splitters in most ways i'd think... the GRS though, really like that leaf shape... but i like fullers too.

i'm starting to really regret missing out on the sgt here... when (if) i'm employed again, i may have to special order one of these... i'm going to bookmark this item, that was a dandy. damn it ;) already in the buying hole as it is... $225 was ... too much :( ah, budgets, we hate thee.

Munk, that's what Yangdu called it on the DOTD at the time. 25" and 58 oz. By comparison, those two big 25" Ganga Rams came in at 45 oz, so the difference is in the AK blade. Frankly, to me, at 25" a weight of right around 3 pounds is ideal, and I distinctly remember you saying early on that yours was about that weight, which for an AK that old is exceptional. A few years ago it seemed that the thought was that heavier and bigger was better. So my 25" AK is about 10 oz heavier than yours, which is not too awfully bad. It has a satisal handle that is streaky and very beautiful. I intend to refinish it to really bring out the grain when I get a chance.

Seth, that is exactly it, looks just like it, and bought at the same time I'm sure. I got the last one that day, just under the wire. Mine is by Sher; are you sure yours was by Kumar? It is 26.5" and (IMO) overweight at 72 oz., but excellent work all around. I was in the market for a 30" just like you, and I remember when you put in for yours, but when I got this beast I backpedaled big time. Last thing I needed was something just 3.5" bigger and even more weight. Still, it is not too hard to handle, especially two handed. Mine also has white streaks in the horn, top and bottom.

I can tell you that when it hits something it keeps right on going. But if I were to use a 25" AK for much work and chopping lots of wood, I would want it to come in right at about 3 pounds, which would be a good compromise.

For taking the heads off water buffalo though, this one I have by Sher would do the trick nicely. :D

Yep, this one, and the Sgt. Khadka big siru from three days before; that's the one that made me groan, it was so pretty. Just about the 2 biggest knives he has ever done and they come in back to back when I'm tapped. (But hey, you got that great WSK and the Beckers remember? :D) Unfortunately can't snag them all and thank God right? ;)

Ram's tuition is fast approaching so I think the Sgt. must be putting in OT for his boy.

I gotta start saving more butter 'n egg money, in case Yangdu gets another one. Are these going to sort of regular now? I'd like to have one.

Anything is possible, but I doubt we'll see many more of these. While he is productive with the little dhankutas and biltons and his Balance models, the Sgt. is pretty inconsistent on his larger offerings. I get the impression he makes them when he needs to raise some extra money.
