I second the notion to go for a flat grind. Or a convex grind. If you're going for easier to do, both will fit the bill. If you're using a belt grinder convex may even be easiest. Then you can use the slack part of the belt allowing you to blend any errors, it can also be difficult at first to get a truly flat bevel.
If you're going to do a chisel, make sure to bevel the correct side. As in, if you're right handed you'll probably want to grind the pile side of the blade. Or back (the side without the mark), whatever you call it. Good luck with jumping in to making!
