This summer i am going to start knife making and i figured a chisel grind would be easier to do , I was wondering if a chisel grind has any benefits or downsides ?

In fact to do it right, if this is your first, it will never happen as it should. They are most difficult to do correctly. Frank

Make a decent flat grind for your first.
It should leave you with a user knife you can be proud of using

I second the notion to go for a flat grind. Or a convex grind. If you're going for easier to do, both will fit the bill. If you're using a belt grinder convex may even be easiest. Then you can use the slack part of the belt allowing you to blend any errors, it can also be difficult at first to get a truly flat bevel.

If you're going to do a chisel, make sure to bevel the correct side. As in, if you're right handed you'll probably want to grind the pile side of the blade. Or back (the side without the mark), whatever you call it. Good luck with jumping in to making!

Eric,
No need to be insulting to an eager youth who was just trying to learn things. Dealing with this is what the mods do.
Calling him names will not be likely bring him back in a year.
I recall you saying to me that the attitude here was what drove people away.....look at your post and see what you think about that statement.....yep, you probably drove him away.

I know you are new here, and are eager to get in the flow, but posting a little less and read a little more wouldn't do any harm.

Knifek -I hope you still comes back next year.
