Choil-less Tank Busters...Who has 'em?

one more... compactness. a choil adds 1/2"-1" of length that isn't handle, isn't gaurd and isn't edge.

Aesthetically, that is a problem I have with the choil; it creates such a large (and ugly) ricasso.

I think mine is beautiful, it's only missing a recurve. Like Josh has said, the choil only gets in my way when I'm trying to use my knife. I prefer them on smaller knives (RC-3) and folders (Caly 3.) The talon hole is enough for my finger to rest on while I'm doing whatever it is I'd need to be doing up there.

I prefer no choil on medium/small knives, 6" or less, where every inch counts. IMO these knives should be balanced for detail work without the choil (not blade heavy).
The Tank Buster is just about perfect.

At 7" or 8", with or without is fine. It all depends on the design.
Once you hit 9" the knife pretty much needs a choil, unless you don't expect to be doing any detail work whatsoever.

The more I look at these, the more they are becoming visually appealing to me. Weird.

I'm also no choil fan!

Personally I really like the looks of no choil Busse knife. I really don't find any use for a choil on baldes in such size as the TB.

also, somewhat unrelated, the choiless version has a slight recurve that the choil'd version doesn't.

I got 3 no choil TB's because they are so awesome and rare among all the Busse offerings due to the no choil option. It is definitely the biggest knife I would want without the choil though. I haven't used mine a ton yet but they are keepers and I think they are better looking without the choil anyway. It's a LOT of knife for it's size and I feel like I can get my fine work done with a standard grip and applying thumb pressure to the ramp.

I agree with LVC as to reasons for no choil. (Post # 20, last 2 paragraphs, and post # 21, this thread.) While I don't see a reasonable expectation to do "detail" work with a large knife, I also don't see the choil as a big problem on a large blade because it takes up a much smaller proportion of the blade and total length of the knife. Having a choil on a big blade gives you a better shot at fine work since you apparently don't have a small blade with you for such tasks.

Mine's choilless. I've never found a use for a choil, and I don't like the looks of them. So if I have a choice, no choil.

Thanks you bunch of turds. After looking at them satin/choil-less TB's, I almost want one. Heck, I'd get rid of a Hell Razor at that point. (NOT AN OFFER OF SALE OR TRADE - JUST MUSING!!!)

Why didn't I jump on this blade???? I'm a moron. LOL

Funny you should say that... I was very tempted to get a red & satin, but at the last second I changed my mind for another BP & satin instead. Sorry! :D
