Choils, or no choils?

I tend to like choils on folders with 3in and under blades as it gives a larger perch in a small package. However, less of a fan on larger knives where I find it unnecessary most of the time and then it's just taking away blade length. I've begun to despise them in the larger fixed blades I have where I really want the extra width and there's plenty of handle to grab onto to and close up work doesn't need a choil and it's more uncomfortable than the handle so it creates hot spots for longer durations of work for me.

Native 5 and similar is where I draw the line. Dragonfly and chaparral are also great knives with the choil.

I like a sharpening choil.
A finger choil I always thought was supposed to act as a guard since most folders don't have a finger guard.

I like finger choils.

I have never held a knife and thought "Man, this choil is unnecessary," but I have held a knife and though "this would be better with a choil".

I thought the XM18 without the choil was the best version they have made. Plus with a flipper tab it's not closing on your fingers and I feel like I can grip harder and have more control because of the tab yet still have the full length of the blade to work with.

I like choils... for small knives. Love it on my DF2, It gives me a full four finger grip on a tiny compact capable knife, simply awesome.

I don't like them on large knives(anything over 3'' blade). I see no reason why the PM2(same problem for me with the manix) with a 4.8'' handle, needs a choil. You have plenty of room, don't eat up blade length when you have that big a handle. I know it's a great knife, and am not saying otherwise, it's just not for me.

The problem with the PM2 isn't the handle length it's the shape. I don't have particularly large hands and without custom scales I can't get comfortable with a PM2

I voted no because I don't prefer a choil meaning Its not something I look for when buying and knife. Its not a deal breaker in a knife either.

I like my fingers on the handle and my whole blade for cutting. I have never seen a finger choil that didn't look like a waste of a good blade. If I need to hold the blade for precision, I just pinch it.
