Just recieved a Commander in a trade, always wanted one. Glad I didn't pay the $160.00 for it. It's a good knife but not anything to go over board about. First I wouldn't be on a ice covered ridge in a life and death situation. And if I was ,I can't concieve that I would need to cut something (rope - no that's holding you on the mountain):) Now if we are talking about Yetti the big foot, I'd rather pull out my Remington 7mm Mag. Leave the pocket knife in the pocket.
The Commander is a good knife, although I think my cheap Timberline Worden is just as good and in all probabilty stronger. Oh well, most of us don't live on ice covered ridges at 18,000 feet....we live in the real world, where I knife is a tool used to cut anything from boxes to being a defense tool.....and most $75.00 knives I seen would work fine for that.:D

Let's see... as of now, I own an MOD, a CRKT, a Perrin, a Boguszewski, and 4 Emersons. All great knives. The MOD was designed by Jim Watson. I trust that, and it's made extremely well. The CRKT was modeled after a Steve Ryan 7 - rusted the day after I got it. Tuf-cloth and a pencil eraser fixed the problem. It's a great knife, and I like it, but it got put into the "iffy" column after the rusting. The Perrin is a G10 version of his LaGriffe. Great little knife. Since it's a custom, it has its inconsistencies, but so what? It's hand made. The Boguszewski is by far the best knife I've ever owned. It's hand made too, and mind numbingly beautiful. I carry it on most days... but am lothe to use it, as I don't wanna hurt it. :D The Emersons are the workhorses of my collection. When I carry one, I know I have something that was thought out by a man who knows what a knife should be. In fact, I just "baptized" my new SOCFK while I was on vacation - cut the jaws out of a thresher shark my buddy had caught on a fishing trip. Aside from marking op the finish a bit, no problems at all.

I guess all I'm trying to say in this long winded diatribe is that I have a lot of different knives, but the Emersons I have are the one's I work with. I trust them because people who's lives depend on them (SpecOps personnel, LEOs, etc.) also trust them. That's enough for me, and I haven't had a problem yet.
