Choosing Double Cut instead of a Standard Finish?

Hello All! New guy here. I recently received my first Busse, an Olive/Green Micarta AD. Thanks in part to the good docter lunde. It is a lot of knife and actually prompted the sale of a pair of Emerson folders to fund a Sus Scrofa order. Anyway, to the question at hand.

What prompts customers to select the Double-Cut over the Standard finishes? I recognize that one is not likely "better" than the other but I am wondering what criteria you all use when you elect to upgrade the blade finish on a combat grade model.

Thank you in advance.

For me it is 99% because I like the look of DC or Satin.

The other 1% is that if I use these knives I use them for camping and preparing food; and I just have a thing about coating flaking off into my food. Not that it would happen but I have a real phobia about it:o .

I love the double cut look and also the satin.

The satin finish is easily touched up after use. However a CC finish user does have character.

My vote still stands with the double cut or satin

I would have to go with looks also. Something about the 'raw steel'. In addition, you can tell more work went into the DC and Satin knives... (for example no INFI dimples). That's why they are more expensive.

Same here. Preference is the DC. After I got one of the original AS's to come from the factory with it, I fell in love.

After I wear some finish off the SHSHII, it will be beadblasted.

I guess somewhere in the back of what mind I have, I'm havin the same fears as Tony...crinkle finish in the food...

I like em all...Coatings are cool if you're using your knife in an enviornment where it'll be more susceptible to rust or if you won't be getting the chance to clean it as much as you'd like. They can always be stripped off and you can BB or hand satin finish yourself. It's cheaper too....along with the extra options. I've never had any coating come off when I was doing anything other than chopping....if some DID get in my food...I HAVE had worse...least of all: Tijuana water :p. I'm still kicking.

I like the Double Cut because it glows..

What Tony G and thatmguy said. For a small knife to be used for food prep I prefer an uncoated blade. DC looks really nice too.

Coated blades are not ground with as fine a grit, if at all, potentially leaving you with "infi dimples" when the coating wears off, or if you decide to strip it off. A DC blade has a higher level of finish, which is why you pay more for it. The amount of surface with potential for dimples will vary depending on the size of the knife, and how it's ground. Generally you won't see really bad dimples on the primary (or secondary) edge grinds.

I believe I prefer the Double Cut for aesthetic reasons, as well. And, I can appreciate the benefit of the Crinkle Coat on a field oriented knife. I only upgraded the scales to Green Linen when I placed the order. I will give the office a call tomorrow to see if the blade finish can be upgraded after the fact. I appreciate all of the input. Thanks!

the scrofas arent being made yet, so you should be able to change without a problem.

i have found the dc to be the most durable. satin shows the most wear, and the coatings will wear off with hard use.

dc is my favorite. :)

D/C and satin are both great....If you wear/beat up the D/C, it's so smoothed out that you can hand rub it to great effect and have a nice satin blade :D

I'm working out a deal with my buddy that has the HUGE cabinet and everything I'd need with it right now....how does a D/C clip point SHSH sound? :D

uhhh.....

im thinking maybe the ruck first. maybe a gw or two.

Satin or DC for me please. Nothing like the beauty of bare steel. I really dislike coatings and always try to avoid them if given the option.

not you.... you must be an imposter.... the real ban LOVES coatings and never would make satin his blades. :)

The real one has been put away and this impostor will have to stay ;)
