Choosing My First EDC Blade :)

Hey guys,

This is my first time posting on this forum and I have a pretty important question. I have been doing a lot of research lately on which EDC knife would be right for me. I have made a pretty good sized list of the ones I want to consider but I cannot make up my mind. I would really like appreciate as much input as possible.

- SOG flash I or II
- Kershaw Leek
- Benchmade mini griptilian
- Syderco Delica 4

I don't want to spend over 75 bucks on the knife (unless there is a certain blade that I MUST get...) and I also don't want it to be too large. I want to be able to carry it every day without it getting in the way, but I also need it to perform well when needed.

Feel free to recommend any of your favorite knifes as well.

Thanks guys.

(I just posted this in the wrong subforum, so this is take 2)

If I were choosing an EDC from among those, the Delica would be my top choice by a wide margin. It's essentially tied with the Mini Grip for the best steel (VG-10 and 154CM are very similar), but carries thinner. The main factor in that choice, though, is that I greatly prefer the ergos of the Delica over those of the Mini Grip, which I find to be too small for my medium-large hands.

The Leek is a nice knife too, but the thin blade and fine point make it better suited for light/detail work than for a range of EDC tasks. (I take it this was what you were getting at when you said you wanted it "to perform well when needed".)

As for SOG, the only SOG I have is a Flash II, and I can safely say that it's my least favorite knife out of all of those I own: massive amounts of blade play even with the pivot fully tightened, poor ergos/handle feel, awkward AO (I prefer flipper-based AO like that found on the Leek), etc.

I was leaning more towards the flash II because it seemed to come out so quickly. Also just because I have seen it, along with the Kershaw leek recommended countless times. If you guys recommend the delica however, I will buy that.

Don't own any Spyderco's, so my choices would be:

Benchmade Mini-grip
Kershaw Blur
Kershaw Zings
Kershaw Skyline
Buck Vantage avid, or pro

And before anyone else can.....

Definitely a Sebenza :D

spyderco centofonte 3 $48

or doug ritter mini griptillian about $115 (totally worth it)

The only problem with the Mini-grip compared to the Delica 4 is the price. I could get the Delica for about 20 bucks less than the benchmade. I live in Canada, so finding good prices for these knives are kinda tough. If the knife is worth the extra 20 bucks however, then maybe I will look at it more seriously. I do think it looks a lot nicer...

If this is your first EDC, I recommend starting with something cheap but decent. Buy a Kershaw Skyline because it's just the right size (3 1/8" blade) and weight (2.3 oz) for EDC. If you feel underpowered or find it dulling too quickly, then upgrade to the Delica.

I don't want to have to buy another blade. I don't care about the price as long as it is high quality.

Delica. Comfortable to carry, hold, and use. Also I personally like the round hole for opening.

I'd say any of the mini grips or a flat grind delica. I had an endura with the regular grind and really disliked it for that reason. The FFG delica I have is fantastic and the full size grip I had was great too.

Kershaw, who knows. As for SOG, don't get a flash lol. It was literally my first knife and I dislike it a lot. I still have it though, just collects dust.

For the price and how much I like it, the delica would be my final vote out of the above. Admittedly I have the foilage green g10 version, though the frn ones should be just as good.

So would this be the correct model of Delica that I need to buy?

(( rules violation ))

Yes, that's the one. If you don't like the blue, it also comes in four other handle colors: green, brown, gray, and purple. I'd suggest editing out the eBay link, though, since BF frowns upon linking to live auctions as possible "deal-spotting".

Okay, well I will delete it soon. I'm about to buy it anyways.
