Choosing your EDC knife

I'm sure no one else has my problem, and that is choosing what knife to carry for the day;).
But if you do, let's hear about it!:D

I've gone the last ~2 months with a single edc for the month, a ZT0200 one month, and a Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt for the other. Had made a decision to go with my Kershaw Volt, even though it is a limited edition with only around 275 made. It was not because of the scaricity of the Volt that I decided not to carry it, it was because I had so many ( many to me) that hadn't seen any pocket time for a while.

So I have put out 5 knives to choose from, and it may be from day to day that I carry them.
The knives are; Benchmade 9051 AFO II (auto), a Benchmade large Bone Collector, a Spyderco titanium Military, my ZT0500 MUDD, and finally, my Lion Steel SR-1 in violet titanium.

Today I carried my BM AFO II. Right now I'm thinking that tomorrow's knife will be the BM large Bone Collector....................or maybe the SR-1...............perhaps the AFO II again..............or the ti Military......................but maybe the ZT0500. Hell, who knows. Only tomorrow will tell!

So am I in the boat all alone or do you have the same problem? Even if you don't have this problem, post anyway and tell us your problems. We can be like the radio physicarist
and help you with your problem!:thumbup::thumbup:.....................;):)

Definitely have that problem sometimes, I have been doing really well lately, carrying my Delica 4 in back pocket and Vic Soldier in right front, vic classic on the keychain every day for about six months.
Cheated some today and put a new Opinel I got at the gun show a few hours ago in my pocket, but have been going pretty steady with the set up above. Had a fling for a spell with a Kershaw Skyline that temporarily displaced my Delica, but that lasted less than a month.

Would really like to get a new Spyderco, either a FFG Delica or Orange Endura, or UKPK, maybe a Benchmade 530. Until that happens I will continue to carry the Delica 4.

Used to struggle with this more than I do now, my edc would change once a day if I was lucky, sometimes I would change knives twice a day and I always carried more than I really needed. Still carry more than I need, but my bases are covered and I still have one empty pocket, plus I am happy which is a plus.

I definately carry more than I really need. My slipjoint can take care of a normal day's knife needs, but I'm a knifenut so I carry one that I don't need, simply because I like too have something in that pocket that many people have never seen. Works for me, and that's all that matters!

What I choose to carry depends on what I'm doing that day at work or at school so I pick the right tool for the job. I'm not going to carry my Delica when I'm heading out to the field to take samples, and I'm not going to carry my ZT0302 when I have to wear a suit for a meeting.

I know life is unpredictable and you can't be prepared for everything, but you can sure try. haha

I tend to carry whatever knife is newest for a while, just to see how I like it, and put it through its paces. Once that period's over, I tend to carry whatever fits the bill most. My 806D2 has the most wear, so I usually carry that M-F at work, in addition to my beater work knife (on my work belt). On weekends I'll carry my 710 or Buck/Strider Tarani since they're in nicer shape and for most tasks, they perform about the same as the AFCK (well, okay, the Buck's not as nice of a slicer).

Beyond that, I really only change up my EDC depending on where I'm going. If I go someplace "fancy", I might carry something sleeker or flatter, like my Vapor or Leek, so it doesn't pull my slacks pocket down or show as much. And finally, if I just want to be showy, I'll carry my Cuda Maxx, but I usually relegate that one to a drawer since I'm in no hurry to beat it up.

Any other knives in my collection might make an occasional appearance, but the above knives are the heaviest in rotation. I don't usually struggle to hard to decide, as I have found my favorites over the last few years and those are usually the closest within reach. I'm planning on picking up a few knives in the next couple months though, so this is all likely to change.

No matter what new knife I'm infatuated with, after a couple of weeks (very rarely longer) I always go back to EDC'ing a 440V SE Millie & D2 Para. My only decision in the morning is which knife tags along in the bag for the days special needs.

Most of the time I carry 3 knives. I know, way overkill, but we are knife nuts aren't we? Usually
a slip joint or Kershaw Zing w/clip removed in front pocket, Spyderco stainless Endura clipped
in front pocket, and a KFU fixed blade in my back pocket. The fixed blade moves to a cargo
pocket when wearing cargo pants.

Great information guy's.

For me, I finally decided on my BM large Bone Collector for today. I really think that of all my folders this one has the best overall feel to it. I do wish BM had gone with a thicker blade stock, around .150 to .160 inches would have been super in my opinion.

Just in case I feel the need to switch off during the day I did pack along my Lion Steel SR-1 in my coat pocket, you know, for just in case.....

cutter17,
Have you tried the A.G. Russell Acies yet? I've noticed over the years that we appear to like/own many of the same knives and I've been carrying the Acies as my EDC since it arrived a few months ago and love it. A.G. packs a lot of blade into that titanium handle. I've got to grab one of those ZT 0200's....I have their 0551 and love it and their 0560 pre-ordered.
Take care.

I switch EDC knives almost every day, and sometimes more than once a day. If I'm carrying a big "tactical" folder, I think that a small lightweight folder might be groovy so I switch to a G10 Dragonfly. Then I see someone post about a FFG Delica, so I switch to one of those. Then Mr. Carl talks about a Peanut over in the traditional forum, so I am compelled to grab one of those. On and on it goes, from Strider to Buck Vantage to Cold Steel.

My only real EDC is a Vic Rambler that lives on my keychain--such a handy little tool! My one-handers are swapped frequently in the RFP depending on where I'm going and/or what I'm wearing, but the Vic Tinker has been seeing a lot of pocket time lately (LFP.) If I wasn't so accustomed to having a folder clipped to my right front pocket, I think I'd just carry the SAKs... time-tested and true!

I used to carry a Buck 301 and/or a Grey FFG Endura around every day, depending on where I was going and what I was planning to do. A couple of months ago I got a Chestnut Bone CV Case Trapper, and have carried that every day since as an only knife. I'm pretty happy with it, but have yet to make it a year of carrying the same knife. Maybe this will be the one. I'm kind of big on traditional knives, the Endura mainly got pocket time camping or working around the house. One handers are the only way to go when there are ladders involved in the day's work.

The only knife I carry is a SAK super tinker, and I've never been in need of anything else on a day-to-day basis. I do, however, keep my Fallkniven F1 in my day pack.

My two real EDCs are a Vic Econo Camper and Gerber Shard on my keyring (I know, not a knife). Locking folders vary based usually on which one I pick up. Endura, Grip, American Lawman, and Kershaw Storm are my main rotation. Boker Action 2 and SRM 710 work in there from time to time.

I do have WAY too many knives for sure. Went through a slipjoint phase but was brought back into modern knives by my Chris Reeves. I always have about 10 knives in a wooden box next to the bed but seem to grab one of four knives depending on my mood.
- Small Sebenza Insingo when I want to drop it in my pocket. This one has the clip removed.
- Small Sebenza Classic - small(er) knife when I do use the clip
- Large Sebenza Classic - When I feel like a larger knife.
- Spyderco Para2 - Something about the smoothness and feel of this knife I really enjoy.

Just looked at my knife receipts. I bought my Benchmade Rukus on 4/4/2009 and have EDC'ed it everyday since then. I do supplement it with a Barrage, when I have a little extra room in my pockets.

Hi KLJ. I've often thought about getting the Acies, but just have never followed through. It is a knife I would like to have though! Size wise it is about the same dimensions as the large Sebenza? Like the design, love the deep carry clip as it is the same as on my Kershaw Volt. I figure it has excellent lockup because of the excellent lockup on all of Kershaw's other framelocks.

I had thought about another Lion Steel SR-1(Bronze) for my Christmas present from me to me, but maybe I should go ahead and give the Acies a good long look!

Btw, you do need to try out a ZT0200! I think it is one of those knives that is a real bargin considering the knife you get!

I carry a Mnandi if I'm going to work or class or a Small Insingo if I'm going by bike in jeans or canvas pants (the clip is more secure on a Seb than Mnandi with thicker material). Outside of that is where I have trouble. I'll carry one of Umnumzaan, Large Insingo, Super Blue Caly 3.5, Ti/M4 Military, Charge TTI, BM 940, Gayle Bradley, or M390 AFCK, each paired with a slipjoint. I have too many I like in the 3.5-5.5oz / 3.5-4" blade range and haven't been able to figure out how to whittle down the list...not that I'm complaining :)

Boy how I kick myself everytime I hear someone mention the Rukus 610. I had two, one satin, one black, and sold/traded both. Makes me sick when I sit down to really think about it.
