Chop-Off! Bk 4, 5, 7, 9 and others *pic heavy*

Nice chop off!! I had no idea that the tram was such a beast. Still gonna get a nine next but good to know.

Excellent research TB! Luckily some Tramontina can be had here and I may just pick up a couple and put an edge to them. But I can't wait to have the King. I'm really liking it more with every thread affirming its excellence in many areas. :)

Great chop off !!! Machetes ROCK !!! One of the most under rated, overlooked, most functional, most economical blades out there.

Awesome chop off! I love me some tramotina action. I use a 14" bolo tram for work and it is nothing short of amazing what can be done with such a thin blade. Nice thing is their weight, you can carry it all day and not feel like you are carrying an anvil.
The lowly machete, with a good edge, will outchop just about anything. It's a matter of length I think, but it's true. They won't hold up like a quality knife, and they aint as strong....but they are awesome.
I think a great woods combo would be a Tram, Full-size Becker of choice, and a light-weight folding/sliding saw (or a SAK with a saw).
Tram- Chopping/vegetation removal
Becker- Slicing, Dicing and Batoning
Saw- Trimming, Trap-Making and Shelter-Building

nice man...you are a chopaholic ain't ya? i need to let you try the pack golok...
I kinda like that PG a LOT. I think the Condor Hudson Bay is first on the list tho

How's the shoulder feeling?

That's a great chop-off. The Megachax looks like a sweet blade! Is it yours or are you borrowing it?
Shoulder's fine. Not that much chopping, I did more last week clearing the fencelines. The Megachax is on loan, Im doing a lil testing/review of it.

Great thread! Good to see the king so high on the list :)

If ya notice..the only things that beat the 9 were axes and machetes twice it's size. And the comfort/ease of use/versatility of the 9 bumps it above most of the blades that ''beat'' it. It's hard to argue with the King!

Excellent chop-off Thrill. Lots of good info there. It's nice to see that the Beckers hold their own among the bigger choppers. I'm going to order a set of those Xtreme Chopper scales from Tom as soon as I can figure out what wood to get them in. They look great.

I like that Megachax. That thing looks brutal. Good job on that bad boy, CF.

I think it's funny how at the end of the day, the el cheapo Tram is still the winner.

That was a great review Thrill. I picked up one of these at Blade and will be trying it out tomorrow.

I still haven't found anything that will outchop the Tram once it's got a proper edge.

Holy Crap! what IS that Trade? A condor, but I dont think its a boomslang? I like the heck out of it tho

For the price performance ratio, hard to beat a machete or the Tram in your case... the cheapest blade won! As the wood gets harder and denser than pine, the thicker blades will probably do better.

Uh-oh Thrill. There's a contender....and I haven't reground it yet either.

It's 1/4 inch thick and weighs in at a hefty 31 ounces. You can two hand it if you hold it right. It will give an axe a run for it's money.

Why, Trade? Why would you do this to me. I don't need another chopper. But I have a feeling that I'm going to get one of those Condors. It looks like a mean beast of a chopper.

can't go wrong w/ a good Plumb hand axe....still lookin' around for a good dbl bit saddle axe for me....

what is the length of those two monsters (Condor and Tram)? oh this is an awesome thread as well. meant to write that but was distracted by those crazy machetes!

I trimmed the Tram to just over 14 inches and the Condor is 12 inches.
