chop off - S&N vs fiskars

Nice write up Ken ... I still love my Fiskars but do want to eventually get something better either a Wetterlings or the modified S&N

Actually the 17" encompasses the length of the head. So the handle is really only about 14".

Okay... but my question was about the head size. Is the head on this little beast as big as the one on a 28" splitter? That would be a compact thug!

Good review. Loved the photos. I can see a use for each of these tools in the proper context relative to each of them, but you did a good job comparing them.

Great write up! Like Doc, I really don't have a use for an axe right now, but it's fun to learn about them from others.

Not sure, my guess is that it is 1.5 or 1.75 lb head like the fiskars. I'm not sure why it has the splitting head configuration on a hatchet. But that is how it is sold and marketted on the company website.

Thanks!

My exposure to Fiskars is at our local big box hardware store. They sell 17" hatchet and 28" splitting axe. Used to sell a 28" axe...I have one and use it regularly.

I'll check their website for more info.
