My GF practicing with the fire steel while I was preparing the tinder bundle. She made her first fire with fire steel over the weekend!

We did an upside down fire. I found some fluffy cotton ball like plant close by, mixed it up with some tree sap, and showed my gf how to light it. Also used pine cones to help out the fire. hands got sticky so I wasn't able to take photos during the process.

nice to see you back bud, thanks for the update, hope you enjoy your girlfriends very generous gift and that the two jobs don't burn you out to much, I work for several jobs teaching different things and know the organization alone can frazzle your brain so try not to over do it.

take care

Peter, I hope you and Mykel aren't getting tired of me thanking you guys but I can't express adequately my appreciation for such a fine gift.

My GF was worried about #9 when she saw what I wanted to baton. She asked wasn't the knife too pretty to do such a thing? haha. That log was no problem at all! It was pretty cold out there on the mountain, but we managed. It was kind of a last min thing, I was kind of bumed out last tuesday. As soon as I found a small window I left town.

Instead of buying expensive sleeping bags, I opted for a tent heater and a space blanket. I had a ton of fun! Sometime about being up in the mountains that makes me super hungry. On our way home we stopped by a diner and I had 2 plates of waffles, best waffles ever!

Thanks John, you made a beautiful working knife!

My GF is so sneaky, I told her to leave me out of the pics and just focus on the knife while I was batoning. But nope, she had to have it her way and you guys have to see me in my sweatpants. lol.

Hi Junglas -

Awesome! That is cool that your GF got to light a fire with the steel.

That is one of the great things about the viKtim - you won't be afraid to use it after seeing how it fared in the passaround.

Thanks for taking time to post pictures, and it was good to see you; you look very much like a very good friend of mine.

Don't work too hard, and keep having fun and stopping in here occasionally!

best

hey, I just figured you'd run off into the wilderness never to return, knife like that'll make you do crazy things to protect it :)

lol funny you mention that. Half of the reason I go hiking is so that I can take photos of #9 in her natural habitat.

Thanks for the welcome back fellas. I hope to have more free time this summer and share more trips with you guys.
